View Full Version : Joystick comes without datasheet

I just received the Trossen Mini Joystick and there are several connectors on the PC board that the joystick is mounted on but no datasheet to describe them. There is a link to a datasheet on the product page on the Trossen website (http://www.trossenrobotics.com/phidgetdatasheets/1113.pdf) but it is not for the same product and does not describe the PC board connectors or how to interface this board to a microcontroller. Trossen? Anyone?

Hey robocode, welcome to the community:D

I'm assuming you are referring to this mini-joystick:

If so, there are two ports. One port is for the X axis, while the other is for the Y axis.

This is a Phidget sensor, which is designed to be plugged into the analog inputs on the 8/8/8 Interface Kit:

Thanks, this definitely helps. I am interfacing to a Parallax Javelin Stamp, not a Phidget. I haven't done any analog input before but I am sure that I will be able to figure it out now that I know what I have. I assume that the inputs are in the range of 0-5v depending on the angle of the joystick in the appropriate direction, right?

FYI, for anyone who reads this post in the future. Phidgets has an awesome product line, But when you are looking at connecting Phidget sensors with IO boards not from Phidgets, do not follow the datasheets of the physical sensors that are on the Phidget sensor board. These datasheets are provided merely for documentation purposes, not as a reference datasheet for interfacing with boards/microcontrollers outside of the Phidget product line.

Many have fried their sensors because they didn't pay attention to this statement:

Just remember that Phidget analog sensors always require up to 5V for power, and will return the respectable equivalent (0-5V) for analog feedback.
