Tyberius recomended I take a peek at this site. I have been working on a project that never seems to get finnished. I started out building my own audio sensor and progressed to an aluminum head. I have recently been playing with the chassis and experimenting with movement.

Some of you might have seen my stuff on Lynxmotion, but incase not, here's what I have:

Wooohoo! Gotta get that 2nd arm in place Mike, and I'm thinking it needs lasers on each arm :D

You should post some of your fantastic future head designs too!

Lasers! Yes!
And that is one cool cranium. WHere did it come from? Homemade?

More heads!

I designed it orginally in eMachineShop, but then my friend took the DXF files and recreated it in Concepts Unlimited to get the 3D shape. eMachineShop does not export 3D data which is why it had to be reconstructed. After the model was finished he machined it using a 6 axis Haas. He runs his own machine shop company and offered to cut my design after seeing it online in a different forum.

The current design pictured above allows the Parallax PING sensors to be installed after desoldering them from the board. It also uses two RadioShack electret microphones for the ears, and on the bottom of the skull, there is a 36mm diameter machined recess to mount a mylar speaker ordered from Digi-key.

My goal was to make a serious looking robot head that could see, hear, and speak evil.

I have several new designs that I would like to have made and will post pictures of them tonight after work.

Thanks for interest!

I just can't get over how creepy that head is! Are the mylar speakers those teeth like things in the bottom?

Have you thought about adding hip rotation servos for better stabilization?

Not a problem. Creepy? wait until I put red LEDs in the eye sockets. It should look "Terminator" like. :veryhappy:

Here is a better picture showing the 4mm thick mylar speaker resting in the recess:

Sorry about the blurry image.

I think waist rotate would be difficult with this design since the waist is a solid aluminum channel. I have tought of putting shin servos to allow the feet to rotate.

And here is one of several designs I have modeled. The below image has unique eye sockets because I plan to mount wireless color cameras but I first need to get one so I can measure it with a digital caliper. It's likely the eye sockets will change a little.
