Octapods and Hybrids

Is anyone here doing any work with octapods? I have designed one, but have not started construction yet.

I'm interested in what others might be doing with octapods, including what sort of "brain" you are using, sensor layouts and types, etc.

My ultimate octapod design is a hybrid, having four retractable (up into the body), independently steerable wheels.

Ok...so this isn't a direct response...but after a project for Droidworks, I'm going to make a hexapod using the sonyvaio 180UX brain from vivian. I am working on getting her arm working for Robogames...but now that I figured out how to control more than one phidgetservo object in MAX/MSP I can make a hexapod pretty easily.(mostly just copying what everyone else made.) Also there is the expense involved. I may have to cut it back to a quadroped just to save money.

I actually do have a design for an octapod rover as I described. It's all done in 3D CAD.
