View Full Version : [News/Announcement] New Skin Working... I Think:-)
Thanks a ton for all your patience while I got this new skin up and running on the TRC:D
I'm really diggin it and I hope all of you are too!
That aside, I think I fixed all the areas that were all jacked up. If you find anything that needs some attention, please reply to this thread (with some screenshots if necessary), along with a nice description of the problem and I'll be happy to look into the problem. Or, if you'd like, just PM or email me the details. Whatever works best for you.
Thanks!

It looks nice, except the very top nav bar is very small. Is there a way to make it larger without disrupting anything else?

Thanks Dale:)
That is one of the things on my TODO list. I'm not a huge fan of how small that is either. Also, I want to change the color of the text to stand out a little more.
Right now, the way that it is setup is that these are just gradient images x height with text embedded on the image:(
ie:
http://forums.trossenrobotics.com/ambience/misc/ambience_nav_home.gif
So, what I have to do is get the original PSD's of the skin and edit the text and gradient image height.

Looks great but I think the black and gray one would look better than blue and baby blue.
Are you talking about the totally different theme we were all voting on before?

I think it's nice to have a splash of color for the site. There are way too many look alike forums out there. I am glad you took the time to customize it and make it stand out more.

I clicked on "Home" in the top navbar once a moment ago and got:
Warning: array_merge() [function.array-merge]: Argument #2 is not an array in [path]/modules/vbgallery.php on line 73
at the top of the skin.
I went to attempt to reproduce it and now I just get a white error page :
Fatal error: Call to undefined function make_image_fields() in /home/forumst/public_html/modules/vbgallery.php on line 433
So far it's 100% reproducible simply by clicking top-nav "Home".

Yeah not doing that for me, perhaps a temporary hicup.
Thanks for letting me know!
This time it was my doing, sorry bout that;) I'm trying to narrow down a bug in the TRC. Good news is, is that I found what was causing the bug. Now I just have to figure out how to fix it, haha.

"Latest Links" Nav Bar broken:
On the left-hand side of the screen, if I click on any of the links in "Latest Links", I return a 404.

Broken for me as well in Firefox and IE8 Beta
BTW Alex since we're on the topic of aesthetics- Suggestion for the last 4 gallery pics that are displayed at the top on the main community page...
IMO, it'd be better to display 4 random images as opposed to the latest 4, give us more variety and cause people to go looking around if they see things they havent seen before. Just my 2 cents.
ah! Gotcha;) I was looking in the wrong place. That Latest Links module I just added today. I saw the link titles all came up just fine, so I didn't think to actually check if the URL behind the link was correct... Strange... I'll take a look at it tomorrow and fix it.

Great idea Ty! I'm chaning that right now:D
I think I fixed it. Check it out and let me know:)

Nice, I like the random gallery change, that's awesome!
Thanks again Ty! That was a great idea:)
I also changed the links module in the left to display random links as well, instead of the most recent links.
So get in the Links Directory (http://forums.trossenrobotics.com/links) and start adding some links people:D

Hey Alex this is just a random thought but it seems like a cool idea to me. Do you think that is would be possible to make a spot in our profiles that we could post our projects in? Just like a little section explaining each project with the goals for he projects maybe posting a few pics or something like that. That would make it so much easier that having to sort through everyones blogs and post to find out what they are working on. Its just a thought that came to me. Probably a bad idea though.

That is an excellent idea! We've had this on our list for a while. We're just trying to figure out how to do it seamlessly. This would require quite a bit of customization because there isn't a plugin to do specifically this (or even one that I could modify slightly).
The problem with creating it is lies with what you mentioned. Would it be for just one robot/project? Would it (or they) only use one picture or multiple? If multiple, is there a max?
I'm trying to stay as far away from having to modify the database as possible, but I don't see any other way. Unfortunately, I'm not a DB guy and not an expert on PHP. I have quite a bit of experience with PHP, but mostly with modifying pre-existing scripts, not writing my own from scratch. Building something like this would require proficiency in both areas, including knowing the how to build custom plugins with the forum software without screwing anything up:(

Yeah I see how this could be a lot of work. I guess what I was envisioning was a tab in each profile that says projects, when you open it it gives a list of each project that the selected member is working on. Then I would allow one pic of the project and a short description. Then I would have a set of tabs for each project that would be for blogs, threads, and picture galleries. When you click on one of those tabs it would link you to each things that was have posted that deals with that project. I guess that this would require some type of marking system for some one starting a new blog post or thread. I know that there is already a "projects" label but I think that would probably have to be more specific. Anyway that is how I was seeing the whole thing work.

You are essentially describing what I've had in mind for awhile. I'd love to have this feature because I think it would be a great way for people to profile their projects in one place. I also want them to be listed in the drop down when you click on their user name anywhere in the forums.
Like Alex says, we will need to get creative. We don't know of a way to do it right now other than paying someone to build it and that's scary due to support issues.

"Comment" button broken image on new (COOL!) tutorials section.
References image: http: // forums.trossenrobotics.com /ambience /buttons /comment.png
Which doesn't exist [yet?].
HEY! You weren't supposed to see that:tongue:
Where actually did you find a link to the tutorials section?

It came up as a new post in the new post section. When I clicked to read the post, it automagically dropped me in the tutorial.
I just wonder how spiffy page four would have been if that guy'd ever finished his tutorial of how to type page numbers. It was riviting. :p
