I'm currently building a Lifesize R2D2 and need some help about the PS2 remote and Phidgets.
How do you use the remote with Phids ?
R2 will have an onboard computer running XP, What type of software will I need?
You can see him at www.tomsr2.blogspot.com (http://www.tomsr2.blogspot.com)
Thanks

Better yet, I found my old Logitech wireless comp remote.
Can it be used with the phidgets software?

You can write software for it, yes. The phidgets come with libraries allowing you to write software. Do you have any software programming experience, and if so, in what?

Oh - and welcome to the TRC! :)

Thank you for the Welcome,
No software training, All this will be new to me.
The only thing I have tried in the past was basic C and only at a starter level.
But at least I know that this can be done and I'll learn as I go.

Yes, this is totally doable ctx32! However, you will need to learn programming. Not only do Phidgets require programming (C, C++, Java, .NET, etc.), but if you want to read values coming from a joystick/gamepad, you'll need to learn something like Direct X DirectInput. That is at least what I learned to read values from a gamepad.

Here's a thread that talks about taking values from a USB HID device and at the end there is an example app:

I haven't tried it out yet, but it sounds easier than my method.

I'm attaching an old demo that I built a couple years back. It uses Direct X's DirectInput to read values coming in from the joystick and display the values on the form. Download and unzip the file, connect your joystick and run CsharpUSBJoystick.exe. Make sure you have your joystick connected before you run the executable.

The programming language I used is C# Express 2005. You can download the newer version, 2008 here:

BTW, welcome to the TRC:D
