View Full Version : [Manoi AT01] a few questions...

My team picked up a Manoi AT01 and well it is a great robot for what I've seen so far, however I realized that it is not equipped with a camera. It is a kit so i was thinking of customizing the AT01 so that we can add a camera and use it to program so it can move autonomously. Only problem is I don't know how to go about putting it together and integrating the camera into the software integration...I'm not too well versed on robotics so i was wondering if anyone here could help.

Have a look at this: http://www.roborealm.com See if that doesn't spark a few ideas for you.

I'd recommend offloading the vision processing to a PC via wireless.

First you'd need to establish a wireless link from the Manoi's controller to your PC- I think Zigbee's can be used to do this? Next mount a wireless camera on the robot, have that send the video feed to the PC (might need a video capture device to interface that) and then process that video in a program like roborealm, which can take video and track, filter, and produce output variables, which you would then have to translate into commands that the controller on the manoi would accept via the wireless link.

So to break it down as a parts list:

Wireless camera w/ receiver base.
Video capture device.
Wireless link for your Manoi to allow your PC to send it commands (perhaps a zigbee)
Roborealm (excellent, free open source vision software)

One caveat, Tyb - Roborealm is closed-source, freeware.

My bad, I was under the impression the source code was openly available. Oh well, its hackable enough as is for my uses ;)

Absolutely. It does have a plugin architecture where you can plug-in your own DLLs, so it's really almost infinitely hackable.

Please come back anyway - even if just to chat robotics. It's what we're all about here in the forum. :)

Absolutely! We love talkin robotics and would love to hear about your work with integrating this camera:D It'd be an awesome project to add in our contest too:

hey everyone ^_^ just wanted to update you with my project so far. Me and my colleague have successfully built the robot and had moved on the the software part. We have as of yet to get the camera integrated with the robot but upon building the robot i have a lot of advice for anyone in the future building a Kyosho Manoi.

We've been messing with the software for a few weeks now to try and get the home position and have found lots of errors in the internet english versions of the software and manuals, and even certain tasks in the japanese manual have proven to be meaningless and only brought us frustrations. However, having fixed all the problems, sacrificing many a screw and their drivers, and the life of our robot who was about to go flying out the window I would like to offer my own help to others and tell some shortcuts so they can avoid some of the frustration i went through. I'll still be here for assistance later and thank you to everyone who helped me thus far ^_^ I'll give you guys another update when the camera comes in. Until then laters
