Hiya there!

This robot is not as complex as all of the other robots on this site, but I'm sure it will bring a smile, I hope!

It's called a Styrobot, and basically it is a vibrating DC motor connected to a switch (antenna) that will make the Styrobot go 'Bzzt!' and move around and jiggle its googley eyes.

Here's some pics:

Here's a video!

So... the whole purpose of this robot is to not only look cool and move, but also raise money for me to go to the Stanford EPGY AI program. :D They sell for $20. You can check them out on my blog (robotgrrl.com) and at my shop (robotgrrl.etsy.com).

I hope to one day have a bigger vibrating DC motor and connect a herd of Styrobots and set up an ANN. However, that would be in the future. :D

very creative work robotgrrl! I saw these on your blog a few weeks back and loved 'em. I'm digging the packing vid:

A lot of care goes into packing these little things:)

As soon as you get back, you need to make some more. Looks like you're just about sold-out.

Please keep us posted with your progress towards raising tuition funding to go to Stanford's program! I think building small bots to pay your way there is an amazingly cool idea!

These would make great gifts. Never too early to start thinking about buying for the geeks on your shopping list.

Well said! My thoughts exactly. I just hope her margins are good - she's gettin' killed on labor. :)

Now you're all hosed. Someone put together a little mini Digg campaign and then DVICE picked it up and featured her Styrobots. Her sales went through the roof - but I have THREE single digit numbered, AUTOGRAPHED Styrobots coming to me... She jumped from a couple hundred dollars up over a thousand dollars in just a few hours.

If you want some you better reserve your place in line. Imagine pet rocks that actually MOVE and are actually CUTE. eYup. I'm a trend-spotter here. How'd you like to have three single-digit numbered and signed pet rocks about now? We could all retire happy...

Congratulations on your progress, RobotGrrl! I love to see young folks doing stuff like this and getting successes! You are working very hard to get where you want to be, and I hope you make your goal soon. :veryhappy::veryhappy:

What I meant to say was - she has more Styrobots on her site: robotgrrl.etsy.com (http://robotgrrl.etsy.com)

Awesome - and yes - when are you motorizing that rock? It's perfect! ROFL at the mental image.

Stanford gave her a scholarship ($1500) last I had read, so she's still a bit shy - but they extended her deadline out to the 13th of the month.

I want Tartanis and Cheesegoo. Anyone going to buy them, or shall I?

I (well, HUV) sent her a $100 donation, and I challenge anyone here who has a robotics company to match that...

Good for you, Jon! I like the idea of supporting entrepreneurial ventures, so I'm buying-up Styrobots. That, and they're crazy cute!

Have you all watched her "making of" video that she posted on her blog recently? Look at the work that goes into 'em and all that soldering iron time!

A friend just bought MintyGoo for me for my birthday. :D

No, you shall not! Because they are in my order instead! :D

Besides, you already have three! Let others have a chance before you go greedy ;)

Sigh. Fine. Just steal-up the cuteness.

I think we should fight over 'em. Let's build battle bots. Shaped like sharks! With fricken lasers!

uh oh... I think we have some contenders!!

:D I think Sienna has a decided advantage, since I have almost zero experience with legged bots. At least until I figure-out how to hack it. ;)

Hahaha! Wow, I just read all of the posts now. Thanks so much for the support guys!

There's new Styrobots available for advanced order :) (And one left for normal shipping - Spideygoo!)

If anyone knows where to buy 3V batteries online with Paypal that ships to Canada, can you please let me know? I bought all the ones at the dollar store, and they will probably never restock XD

Also, feel free to request a Styrobot. I'm easy :D

Thanks d00des!
