And I used to think I was pretty good at legos... :O

Absolutely amazing, definitely the best one I've seen yet. If this guy would post even a basic guide as to how he built it, I have the feeling Id be ordering several hundred dollars worth of legos to replicate it :D

Sure it's not rendered?

I don't think so, it's up on a gallery of a bunch of other Lego projects. Looks legit to me.

edit: Yes, all the other lego projects have the same 'cgi' tag in the url, must stand for something else.

It doesn't look rendered to me either. There's just way too much depth and detail. The shadowing and reflection quality is just way beyond what is possible in gaming engines. If someone did render this, they would be getting their door knocked down from all the pounding on it by top gaming companies;)

anyway, VERY impressive build! I can't believe all of the intricacies of this!!

I had only looked at a couple images, and not in full res. I think at this point it probably isn't a rendering. (Don't confuse game engines with rendering engines, though...)

cgi, btw, means "common gateway interface". It's the "old-skool" style of serving up active pages.

That is some model!

And it doesn't even use that many pieces either!

<3 LEGO!

Sometimes it's hard to know. ;)

yeah yeah, I thought about it after I posted it, but thought, "meh, nobody's gonna give me crap about it"... :p

Sometimes it's hard to know. ;)Those were incredible renders, much more realistic than higher grade ones I've seen before, but I still stand by want I said before:p The shadowing and reflection just isn't there yet in rendering engines to make fully realistic renders. At least, not that I have seen.

Don't get me wrong though. I am totally envious of anyone that can do any level of rendering!

You know what? I don't care if it is rendered!

Just the vision to put that together and match pieces to make a whole is still impressive. Not using physical blocks doesn't mean you stink at LEGO, just means you don't have every set under the sun :D

[clapping]

Personally, not only do I agree, Sienna, but I would contend it's _more_ difficult to get a good model/render goin'.

Alex - I've seen some pretty magical stuff, but in full-res photos, I concur it's likely not rendered. A close thing, though!

Now I want a LEGO Mindstorms NXT set even more and to start building up with extra sets. Technics sets are compatible too! :veryhappy: Have one of these would be great for doing my "Gadget Guy" think where I volunteer, but I would have to have a Windows based laptop to build robots on the spot. That's the bummer part.

M'mmmm I have just bought Danial Benedettelli's NXT book on how to create and build his J5, Called creating Mindstorms NXT Robots A full how to. here is a pic or two of his J5.

I am in the process of building this one, as I have thousands of $'s worth of Technics I have enough to construct this. If you want more pic just ask.

This is where I'm stumped. This robot wasn't built with only an NXT kit. I have one at home and a lot of those parts don't come with a Mindstorms NXT kit. Looking at the other galleries of rack911 (builder of this j5), it looks like he/she is probably using some Star Wars pieces:

That'd be awesome if this was an actual mobile J5 though:D Still way freakin cool either way.

Nice find 3mem8! How many NXT kits do you need to build that beast?

Since were on the topic of the NXT, for people who have them; here are some cool 3rd party website for accessories you can purchase:

http://www.hitechnic.com (http://www.hitechnic.com/)
http://www.mindsensors.com (http://www.mindsensors.com/)

These products are also not limited to the NXT brick, they can be used with a variety of controllers.

O my word... the hackers have certainly been busy releasing new things for the NXT!!

Almost makes me want a kit! (however for now I will stick with SES and stuff... don't need more drain on the paycheck! :P)

Alex: It uses 2 NXT bricks and most of it is NXT and Technics, And it is moblie. I will try to find a video of it.
In the mean time here are some more links.
http://thenxtstep.blogspot.com/2006/05/johnny-5-is-alive.html

Here is his website and videos: It uses 6 NXT motors 2 NXT bricks and can use 6 sensors.
Looks like the videos do not work bad links, damn.
