I love it crabfu, really neat what you come up with, so simple but very effective.I was waiting for the cat to pounce on it he he, Not the slightest bit interested is he! Great video crabfu.

how does the mechanism Work?

thanks guys :)

how it works... hmmm you should be able to see in the vid... just bunch of servo mounted together, the front and back legs rotate, and there is a servo for twisting the body in the middle - allowing the legs to sort of lift, and one for head turn. There is no fancy heli radio needed, just 4 servos, each stick axis controls a servo, and with a little pratice you can get the sequence of movement looking pretty well... well for a 4 servo little critter anyway :)

You're really setting new boundaries in simplistic gate design and ergonomics. Fascinating projects (beyond their cute-factor) in that way for me.

thanks... but basically it comes down to laziness :) slap a few servos together and see what happens, sometimes I get lucky and it actually works!

Instead of "simplistic design", I should probably have called it "mechanical gate design".

"The harder I work, the luckier I get" - not sure it'd be defined "laziness". ;)

I like simple better lol... simple, as well as overly complex, both rank high in my book. I love realistic gates and motion, but sometimes something simple tugs at your heart strings just enough.. at a fraction of work of something complex and "correct". I'm in the business of illusion I guess, and regardless of how hard I work, I am lazy by nature, and always looking for an easier road :)

Again great work by crabfu! Very neat and beautiful design. I think I have seen this simple servo setup before on smal autonomous robots. Can't remember where...

Awesome!

Given that you probably didn't buy anything new for this project, you should enter it in the junkbots contest. It is really damn cool.

engadget always seems to hang my browsers - on three different machines. Sigh.

Regardless, I'm sure it's a super cool review - GRATS!
