Clearly, I need to come back and break up the prize pool ...
I loved the look of the new arena!

We have a lot of video from Robogames but it is taking some time to edit it since none of us have experience with that. In the near future we will start posting the video.

Bring it on. We missed Onyx pushing around the buildings!

Sounds like you had issues in RoboMagellan this year... sorry to hear.

Yeah, that was disappointing. The DXL bus just stopped forwarding packets, and steering stopped working. Still don't know why.

Honestly, I'm more interested in building a two-legged bot. It wouldn't be as fast, but a new challenge, and that's what it's all about :-)

A biped would be cool. We need more bipeds. One of our club members (Apophis) is thinking about a biped and we have a new club member building one as well. I've mulled it over, but don't know if it will be this year as I'm also mulling starting to working toward autonomy. Andrew (who used to run the event) claimed he might show up in 2019 with a biped as well.

You'll notice in the 2018 ruleset (which I assume will extend to 2019) we've greatly incentivized bipeds giving them +10Hp trying to encourage a move in that direction. (You could make a heavy weight biped and get another +5Hp, plus another +1Hp for pre-qualifying and start with a whopping 36Hp)

It looks like you have scoring mostly solved now! Also, 5 GHz video is good, and control and movement seem like solved problems. I still heard some dry-firing of guns for the matches I managed to watch. I know that I had that same problem in the past. I'll have to look at your gun designs if I decide to go that way.

Or just get a .22 with a drum magazine. What's the worst that could happen? ;-)

2nd match between Apophis and 99. Closest fight to the finish.

Final match between Apophis and Nomad, both robots are from R-Team Robotics Club. More match video is coming in the future.

You've done such an awesome job with both the arena and the multiple video cameras.
Mad props, as the kids say when I was little!

Thanks! we have a good time with it. Here is another video of the match between Tide Pod and Odin.

Tide Pod vs Captain CURC match

At Robogames Tide Pod won the match with a score of 2 to 0. That particular match uncovered a S/W bug in the target plate system which was unknown. This is the only known match where the bug surfaced. The current target plate system has been very reliable and therefore has not been under as much scrutiny as in the past. Now that the bug has been uncovered it will be fixed and the target system will be even better.

The time that Tide Pod's score reached zero was before the match was paused to re-attach Captain CURC's front plate. Captain CURC actually won the match with a score of 7 to 0 at that time. The video is presented "as is" and the score reflects the incorrect Tide Pod score from 2 points down. Sorry about that to Columbia University Robotics Club. As compensation, for Robogames 2019, we offer an extra health point to CURC. If you happen to earn a pre-qualification video health point then that would be added to this one for a total of 2 HPs.

Apophis vs Odin Match

This is the first match at Robogames 2018 between Apophis and Nomad. By watching these matches you can see what works and what things can be improved. Several good skills to acquire; become more proficient at blind full reverse for some distance without hitting things. Also cutting diagonal corners for speed. As well as getting much better at the ricochet shots. Quickly going through narrow allies is an advantage.

This is a series of excerpts showing robot problems that happened at 2018 Robogames Mechwarfare. While these are common problems that occur there are many more that have happened in past Mechwarfare events that are listed at the end of the video. Actually this year was not as bad as prior years. In 2017, I think 4 robots had the toggle power switch turned off by a bb hit. Some of the switches were well hidden, inside behind target plates. Those bbs, given the gift of velocity, can find their way into little gaps and bounce around inside the robot guts.

Well, i remember at least one! :-X

Btw, this video should be mandatory watching for anyone who wants to compete. If you can avoid all the issues shown here, YOU WILL MOST LIKELY WIN!
Robustly being able to see the video, control the mech, and fire the gun is "all" it takes...
