View Full Version : Free Parts! Act Now!

I'm not certain if this was posted elsewhere in the TRC, because I only frequent the Mech threads, but you too can have free parts CNC made. Check out the details here http://www.bigbluesaw.com/saw/big-blue-saw-blog/general-updates/free-part-day-august-6.html

Note: I am in no-way affiliated with BigBlueSaw and in fact have never used it myself. I'm frantically trying to get my CAD done by the 6th, so I can capitalize on the deal. You can make multiple parts as long as they fit in a 9"x9" square.

Also Note: The guy who runs it is a fellow a robot builder. Obviously, you can scam the heck out of him and have all your parts made for free, but please be considerate. Have your free parts made and keep him in mind when you're looking for parts later on. Help a bot brother out.

The sale on aluminum parts was pretty successful; thanks to everyone who participated.

I have a question for the community though: what materials would you like to see us run promotional discounts on in the future? More aluminum? Steel? Stainless? Polycarbonate? Something else? What thicknesses?

10-21-2008, 04:19 PM
I'm just about ready to submit for quote some parts in steel
since I use more of that than anything else

Hopefully I'll have them uploaded tonite

Oh gosh! I missed the additional 10%..... shoot!

Oh well, I guess thats what happens when you design and order in a rush. Considering that was my first ever sheet metal design work, I am interested to see how it comes out!

You guys should update this thread when you receive your parts. I'd like to see what the cost of the part is versus quality and such.

Great idea, jes.

We're always looking for interesting customer projects to put on the website. Let us know if you're interested.

We have announced our next sale date: November 20-25, 2008.

For those who don't know what Big Blue Saw does:

Do you have a creative design that you would like to turn into a real metal part?
Want a plastic part for your prototype, small project, or experiment?
Have you ever wasted days waiting for a quote from your local machine shop?
Are you bugged by laser cutting shops that charge a high minimum?
Tired of poor service from your local waterjet cutting shop?

Hi Simon, thanks for keeping us posted.

I noticed that you gave a few notes describing 6061 and its use on the special. Do you think you could put together a similar rundown on some other common aluminum alloys you machine? I know that "what's the difference" is a common question here.

I did a brief comparison on the last sale:
