A brief intro to RSS feeds courtesy of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_%28file_format%29). Excellent Wiki writeup btw:)

Basically, in the TRC, we have RSS feeds which can be used in feed aggregators (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregator) such as my.yahoo.com, iGoogle, Google Reader, Live.com, Pageflakes, feedreader.com, Bloglines, etc.

The benefit and purpose of RSS feeds is to keep you up to date with all of the current (in this case) TRC forum & member blog activity.

There are a quite a few different ways to subscribe to an RSS feed within the TRC (go ahead, make fun of my ghetto photoshop skills, I know you want to:p):

477

If you click on any of the RSS icons (http://forums.trossenrobotics.com/images/misc/rss.gif), it'll bring you to the subscription page which gives you a list of aggregators to choose from. NOTE: The address bar has three feeds that you can subscribe to if you are within a specific forum.

However, there has been a problem with the forum RSS feeds (both top level and individual forum level)...

Recently, in my aggregators, I noticed the TRC RSS feeds were not being updated with the most recent information. After some investigation, I found that the forum RSS feeds were only being updated when a new thread was created. They weren't being updated every time there was a new post being added to a thread.

Well, the problem isn't 100% fixed so to speak, but someone in the vBulletin (software used for the TRC) community helped me to find a way around the problem that I am happy enough with to let everyone know about. I'm sure more bugs/things will come up, and when they do, please either PM me, or post in this thread and let me know about it.

The feed will now be updated when a new post is created. But, when you click on any of the links in the feed, it appends the command to take you to the most recent post of that thread, but it doesn't always work.

Regardless, now we can use the RSS feeds and comfortably know that the feed that we are subscribed to will keep us all updated with all of the most recent TRC activity:D
