Andrew and I want to harass the office down the hall with J5. To do so properly we would need a full-duplex (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duplex_%28telecommunications%29) intercom system. On our end a headset is best, on J5 a loudspeaker and open room mic is best. And ideas on where we might find a product to use or hack for this?

thanks!

Try this one:

But since you have a wifi link, and an onboard PC, you should be able to use the built-in audio to do this...

I'm not sure about bringing microphone input over RDP though, haven't ever tried it.

And on that note, I'm heading home~

Why not just use Skype? Put a microphone and amplified speaker on it, and have Skype auto-answer calls to it.

I guess they don't sell the "Mr. Microphone" anymore?
Actually a quick Google search showed a number of modern day "Mr. Microphones" ranging from $18 - $x,xxx.
If you go with the VHF version you get duplex capabilities out to 500' and wireless Karaoke at the next Trossen office party!

I've used it successfully. I was actually suprised at how well audio in general works over RDP.

butbutbut why?

Free open source and closed source conferencing packages abound. You have a 1ghz PicoITX on there with audio in/out. You have a wifi network.

So does this mean no wireless Karaoke at the next company party?

Actually, I was just thinking: "Now there's a man not afraid to shave with Occam's Razor" [snicker]

Absolutely it doesn't mean "No Karaoke" - in fact, most people I know probably sound better compressed. ;)

Thanks for all the tips. I was thinking something along the lines of an independent radio from the PC to just keep the processing off there and to keep down the amount of software needed to deal with. I also would like this to be reusable for other future bots. Sort of a plug and play add on.

I'm not knocking the ideas being thrown out there. Just giving more info on goals for this project.

thanks !

Sounds like you need a couple of wireless baby monitors ... or "babe" monitors depending on who works in the office next door:)

Okay, now see I need one of these little Pleno's because I just spit coffee all over my monitor. Very funny!

Here is a megphone for $10.00 Here (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=92822) They had one in the local store that was larger for $30.00
Seems like it would be an easy hack.
