Hi everybody,
I'm starting to gather parts for my latest bot and as part of the challenge I thought that I'd tackle traversing my stairs. The idea is to have the bot roam the house picking up things that don't belong and storing them in a cargo container. Then drop the container off at the charging station when he charges.

This is where my problem comes in. I live in a multilevel house and there are a set of 4 stairs between the family room and the main level with the kitchen and front room. I'm holding off on the large flight of stairs to the second floor.

So the plan was for the bot to be a three wheeled bot with one of the wheels being a caster. Basically I'm opening this up to the group, I have no idea right at the moment and I wanted to see what you guys thought.

Thanks

I have not built a robot that can climb stairs, but here is one I like quite a bit:

This page has a video that shows it climbing stairs and skiing down them...

Inxfergy: I love it, I want ten of them. Oh man that's so cool.

I have to admit that is pretty cool. I wonder if it comes with the soundtrack.

That is really cool. The "Wegs" bots that were posted would also be a candidate. The traditional method is several sets of tracks, sides and hinged on the front and/or back - that seems to be the most popular design with SWAT robots...

Here's an interesting link

This robot is specifically designed to climb stairs.

I guess the problem will be accounting for dynamic weight distribution in the cargo basket.
