Big Sexy Yeti talks about Mech Wars, News at 11

This is all basic info and old news for most of you, but Matt and I shot a quick video blog (http://blog.trossenrobotics.com/index.php/2008/08/29/robots-that-shoot-other-robots-and-interns/) of me giving a rundown on Mech Wars basics and "The Trossenator" Mech we're building for the competition.

"Now some of you may have heard of Mech Wars (http://mech-warfare.com/), which is a new robotic competition slated for debut at Robogames 2009 (http://www.robogames.net/). What you may not have heard, is that it’s being organized by a very sexy Yeti of a man named Andrew Alter (yours truely). My boss was bored today and decided to stop by my desk to see exactly what he pays me for, so we shot a quick video of the aforementioned Yeti explaining a bit about the Mech Wars competition and a Mech being built and sponsored by Trossen Robotics. “The Trossenator” is a Mech that can be piloted by members of the Trossen Robotics Community (http://forums.trossenrobotics.com) who are attending Robogames 2009, but do not have a Mech of their own to compete with. Think of it as a perk for those who help keep our community growing and always interesting.

So cool Andrew, Really enjoyed that video, I love that leg gait, I may have to change Mine, As I really like the way it shifts over the leg, looks so natural. Do you have any more info on that system, construction of the leg. Thanks.

If you ask me, you’re now just getting into the tough stuff Tyb. A good walking gait is probably one of the hardest things to muster up hands down… at least it’s always been my downfall. I’d spend hours… no, days trying to get it right and still only ending up w/ a headache - and no time left to make the big mess of servo positions anything worthy of being called a walk. :o

Anyway, I know this will be the first time some of you have ever worked w/ bi-beds, so here’s a link that has been helpful to me.

Thanks Matt! I've actually had some success with this walking gait on my bioloid based Mech, and am basically replicating it here. Be sure to check out Jon Hyland's Microraptor for the real deal, it's his gait I'm copying ;)

This looks very interesting, I can't wait to see all the other mechs. It's really advancing fast. It looks like your going to get more than 4 copetitors on the first year like you guesses :wink:

If I can get mine programed correctly I would be prepared to ship it to the U.S from New Zealand to be entered in the competition.

That would be great! I know June seems like quite a ways away, but it always seems to sneak up on me far sooner than I'd ever expect it to. Unfortunately, that's usually the time when I start slopping everything together. :rolleyes:

BauerMECH: Yeah it would be nice to enter it, But a lot has to happen before I decide on that, I have a lot of molds to make for body armour also. We will see.
