View Full Version : [Discussion] Roboticists Continue to mimic Nature

I find it fascinating that the further along we get in robotics the more we continue to mimic Nature and biology in our designs. For example, in the last few years researchers have been moving more and more away from wheels and are working on crawling and walking bots. Likewise, we are all working hard to learn how to use vision instead of range sensors for navigation, just like animals do for the most part. It is only a matter of time until we move to artificial muscles over the current actuators.

Building robots is really an exercise of reverse engineering biology. I think if we inhabit the planet long enough the end goal is really all about reverse engineering ourselves. The ultimate science project :)

Anyhow, this new camera from U of I is pretty cool. Another step forward in learning to mimic Nature.
