I've been playingwith some SPAL linear actuators (what fun!). Currently I am using a purchased SPAL controller which is really limited for my application. Before I go and make something smoke, I was wondering what others are doing to control these actuators. I would really appreciate hearing from those of you who may have used pic controllers to drive these and hopefully share your experiences - good, bad, and ugly.

Just to chime in, the SPAL linear actuators are essentially DC gearhead motors with a potentiometer for positional feedback. You could in theory use a micro to read the potentiometer and control a motor controller, in the same manner a servo's control circuit works. Haven't ever tried this personally though, perhaps someone else has some input?
