View Full Version : Lightening holes

I built the same aluminum bracket twice. One in 0.032 and one in 0.064. Of course one weighs twice as much as the other.

As expected the 0.064 is substantially more rugged so when I add lightening holes I can be much more aggressive.

What I am wondering is if in practice it is common that an initially heavier piece ends up being lighter than an initially lighter piece once lightening holes are put in place?

In theory it should be about a 1/4 heavier than the lightest one with holes in it.
