View Full Version : [Project] My laser cut bots, now in kit form for you to build :-)

Last year I made some bots out of foamex and upped the videos to Youtube. They also appear on my website www.pinter75.co.uk/robots (http://www.pinter75.co.uk/robots).

Well, I got loads of people asking where I got them from, how to build one, wanting plans etc...

So I have decided to trial a new project. It is called www.botbuilder.co.uk (http://www.botbuilder.co.uk) and offers build your own bot kits. The kits are designed to allow users to create their own robots using their own technology, or off the shelf components.

So far I have created 2 bots:

Meet "TriBot". This is the laser cut plastic version of my Roving ServoBot ( http://forums.trossenrobotics.com/showthread.php?t=2538 ) and Explorabot ( http://forums.trossenrobotics.com/showthread.php?t=2545)

The next bot is "RoundBot"

In this shot, you can see I have mounted an Arduino, a couple of micro swiches and within 30mins I had code making this a simple object avoidance bot :-)

Both of these are driven by continuousrotation servos and have mountings for additional accessory servos.

They are designed to be controlled by off the shelf boards such as the Arduino, Basic Stamp, R/C gear or boards built by the user, such as my 12 Channel PIC Bot Board.

Both of these are precision laser cut out of 3mmm perspex and really do look good!

So my aim is to give other DIY bot builders who need a decent pre-cut base to mount their own projects on.

I could really do with input from other robot fans, as to what features they would like incorporated into these types of kits.

I am currently hacking away in prototype mode, but if there is enough interest, I will take the plunge and start retailing kits in early 2009.

Finally here is a YouTube video of the above bots in action, and a little more about the project.
