Hi folks!
We are going to give these new forums a shot! There are a lot of advantages to a forum over email:
You can guarantee that your links to cool stuff on the web will not be broken/chopped/mangles as is all too often the case on Yahoo Groups.
You can use fonts, font sizes and colors with out any fear of members receiving un-rendered and unreadable HTML gibberish instead of your message.
You can reliably embed images and other media right in your message to help make your point. (In Yahoo Groups some users will get your attachments and some won't depending on their delivery settings.)
You can tag your post with keywords that will help people find your well-written posts later. Lots of people will probably mention the word transistor in passing, but only some folks will bother tag their posts with keywords. This makes it much easier than Yahoo Groups to separate out post that merely mention transistors from those post that actually contain informative content.
You can edit your posts after they have been written!
There are some cons:
You cannot originate new messages via email. You must visit the site to start a new thread of conversation or respond to an existing thread.
The (one-way) email notification of new posts contains ONLY the subject line and a link to the new post.
The group-wide email subscription can only be daily or weekly. Immediate email notification of new posts requires that you subscribe to a particular thread.
