Or, "A junkbot for a boring, rainy, Sunday afternoon".

I got really tired of not working on my current projects (futurlec said they shipped my stuff a _month ago_, grrr). So to kill this afternoon I pulled out my old box of Erector set parts and started tinkering. I finally ended up using only one erector part (a wide girder), a couple servos, a coat hanger, and an AVR for brains (using the Arduino IDE to program, but just a pile o' parts on a ratshack proto board).

So far it walks forward. It took me a while but I finally figured out I needed to delay between running the front and back servos to get it to actually walk. Before that it just kinda danced in place. I need to work on it's feet a bit, they randomly dig in to the carpet and get stuck a bit. I also need to bend the front shins some so it can get over some obstacles (like throw rugs).

Slightly different info available at my site (http://del.rudforce.com/robots/walker-0/), including the code as it sits right now. I plan on adding more to this thing, someday, before I decide I need it's parts back.

I'm calling it my first. Kidbot kinda didn't count (just a Halloween costume), my BEAM bots were from a kit, and the Lego stuff I ever built was from instructions anyway. I know it's also not an original design either, but at least I didn't have any instructions to build by :)

The very first bot I ever built was one of these, but with a beam bicore. If you've got the time i really recommend trying the bicore to drive the motors, it's auto-adaptiveness is still a beauty to watch!
Get DB to enter you in the next junkbot comp though, this looks like a winner! :D
