View Full Version : [Discussion] How do you like the new side menu in the store?
Hey everyone!
I finally have the new menu fully operational:
http://www.trossenrobotics.com/
It's completely CSS driven (no javascript, YEAH!!!). The fun part though was fixing all of the cross-browser support issues that I ran into:(
Anyways, I've tested the menu in IE 6.0 and 7.0, Firefox 2.0 and 3.0, Safari and Crome, but only on Windows. The only other platform I had access to test on was a Mac using Firefox 3.0.
If you have access to other platforms/browsers, let me know how it works out:)
Any other feedback is greatly appreciated! The only bummer that we've ran into is that we cannot control the delay of the menu since there's no javascript involved.

Sorta almost kinda doesn't work now on Opera Mini on my Boostberry. [pout] Old one worked fine. I can see "Educational Robotics" and if I expand that, I get one gihugicly long list of everything expanded.
No more phone shoppin'.

That sux:( I don't think there's much option for this one though because I had to make the left column a fixed 200px wide (looooong story). I think eventually we're going to create a "mini store" for mobile devices. How soon I guess totally depends on the demand. It's good to know that people are shopping at the site using mobiles though. I wonder... How many TRC members are shopping at TR using mobile devices? I looked in Google Analytics, but that doesn't show me how much of our community members specifically are using mobiles:(

I need to be able to mark a topic unread so I can come back again later... This requires a longer reply than I can provide without a nap. stoopid flu.

I'm using IE 8. Seems to work fine until...
If I mouse from a submenu back to the parent menu item then mouse back to the submenu, I can never get the slide out menu to persist unless I mouse over another parent menu item then come back and mouse over the original parent menu item to get the fly out. Hmmm, not sure I explained that well enough...
Same odd behavior when I turn compatability on too. Hoorah for IE and thier CSS compliance. Ah, I kid, I'm a MS dev and I run into this stuff too.
Hmm... I think I understand what you're saying but I can't seem to replicate it in IE 6 or 7 (or FF/Chrome/Safari for that matter)... I'm going to have to download IE 8 and check it out. I'm getting ready for RoboGames this week though. I got it on my list to take a look at after I get back from RoboGames. Thanks for the heads up!!
Thanks again for everyone's feedback and please keep it coming. I also have on my list to implement one of those "report an issue on this page" plugins into the store too, as I'm sure there are some small issues on various pages under different browsers/resolutions.
Did I mention... Dealing with cross-browser compatibility issues is a PIA, lol:D
