I just noticed that one of the wheels in my differential drive robot is off axis by about 1/8".

What are the implications of having one wheel slightly forward of the other?

If they're still in parallel to each other and you correct their speed offset with the encoder there shouldn't be a problem with it going straight forward.

Turning will cause slightly more drag than if they were aligned, but given your 'closed-loop' control it should work fine.
