Darn it, all the cool kids are doing it.

Fine. I scrounged around the junk box and dug up some... Junk. What'd you expect from the junk box...

I think I have about everything I need. Except for two SES Large C's and a name.

So, yeah, I'm tossing my hat in the ring with a Quad. As long as his leg doesn't fall off, I can battle Chef Omega for the bronze. ;)

Mech: Miss Alignment
Status: Walking, slowly; Shoots air-soft, Remote Control mode works minimally, Autonomous still in proof-of-concept stage
Frame: Lynx BRAT, mostly copied from tutorial.
Division: Bipod/Airsoft, Hopefully Autonomous using Android cellphone as brain.

Our team consists of two computer programers from Colorado.

Here is a pic of her after our first weekend of work. Keep in mind this is not the finial config, just to meet the proof-that-something-mech-looking-exists requirement.

We will probably end up looking very similar to the BRAT mech in the lynx tutorial, the main difference being in the control system, and our batteries are in the feet.

If you are posting in this thread for roll call, please post a picture or link to your project thread/webpage.

Not trying to pick on anyone here, but we're trying to get an accurate count of participants and while ideas are great, we had a number of people 'building mechs' for Year One who never showed.

I'm going to ask for some sort of proof that you've made decent progress (getting a bot built, walking, and shooting is HUGE progress) before you're added to the roster.

That robot will be dismantled and harvested for the new project. Timberwolf will indeed be a Fatkid but he will be built on a completely new Platform. I'm currently out to sea on board the USS Ronald Reagan. So I'm a little limited untill we get back to home port but being a 2M Tech I have access to everything a Geek could ever want.

Project Status: Baseline Mech built & tested / upgrades required to achieve full functionality (645 Servo Upgrade, switch from SSC-32 to Bot Board w/Basic Atom Pro 28, Power Distribution, etc). Software code refinement & regression testing continues.

Mech: Unnamed Currently
Status: R & D/prototyping
Frame: Custom machining, all made from 6061 aluminum
Division: 4-legged monstrosities, both casual and hardcore
Armament: Two Airsoft guns (gutted Defenders are the current thinking) for both divisions, chemical rockets additionally for hardcore division because they are cool and I've got a lot of rocketry experience so they will be a piece of cake to make. Debating if I want to try mechanical rockets for the non-hardcore division - probably not.
Project Status: I'm currently designing on paper the parts and then machining out components to test the ideas. I'm basically building every part from scratch because I want to go a different direction with the design. It might work, it might not. It's too early for me to be on the roll call but I am very interested in participating and putting a lot of time/money into it right now.
Percent Complete: < 5% though it's still early, lots of time :)

I've attached a prototype of a leg segment. It's tiny because I'm just trying out a joint idea and don't need to waste material to make it larger. I hope to have the whole mechanical idea worked out this week.

I've added XBrat, Gunner's Daughter, Shadowcat, and BOo to our list. Others who aren't on the front page list yet, you will be when you update your post showing an actual mech under construction (that looks like it is either walking/close to walking).

I've also changed the status on several bots to "Tentative" for those who have mechs, but aren't sure they will be ready in time, or aren't sure that they can make it to Robogames.

Just drop me a PM if I need to correct any errors.

Nomous-580 mech update:

Now moving autonomously with guns mounted.
Still need to install gun electronics, remount the guns, upgrade to 645 serovs, upgrade programing to including targeting

I'd say 50&#37; done.

Ok, fully configured (just need to tidy up the wiring) Nomous is wandering around though not autonomously, yet. That is the next step. Now the fun part begins. How to get Nomous to walk and fire like an autonomous mech!

What was done:
upgraded to 645 servos, installed cannon electronics, test fired with live ammo.

Needs to be done:
tidy up wiring (looks super messy right now) continue tweaking servos, continue autonomous programming

The video below is just walking around and dry firing of the cannons for proof that my mech is ready for combat!

Mech name: Softspot. ( The top of his head has a soft spot because it is only covered by black tape. )


I'm working towards entering two robot shows this year. Robocup and Mech warfare. Robocup qualification deadline is Jan 22 ( I better hurry ) so I'm focusing on that for the moment, but I have made enough progress now that I might as well show him for Mech warfare.

He's made from 18 AX-12's and comprehensive brackets. Two micro-servos for pan-tilt. A PS3 eye for a camera. A Hylands IMU. An Atom 1.6GHz main cpu ( fit-pc2 ) running Linux. An AVR ( teensy ) for communication between the main cpu and the AX12's/micro-servos.

The main planned modifications for Mech warefare are to replace both arms with cannons or possibly use one arm as a cannon and the other as a pellet feed. Since the robot will have the autonomous capabilities required for Robocup I'd like to enter him for both autonomous and piloted competitions. For piloted competitions I'll broadcast the camera output over wifi ( probably just VLC streamed ) to view and control from my ipod touch.

Also.. If I do manage to qualify for Robocup I'll need to build 3 duplicate robots so I might end up with 3 robots for Mech warfare too!

Hey my name is Calvin and I haven't been on in long time like since September which was also the last time i have touched my comprehensive bioloid kit. This is due to me starting college at the University of Washington Seattle campus. Just joined the UW robotics club and volunteered up my robot kit for us to use (if we finish in time) at mech wars. Had to volunteer my kit because there are only 2 other people and UW wont/doesn't give money for parts/kits. And if we don't finish in time then next year but hope to go anyways even if no robot to bring just to see some cool robots in war : ). Any hunches or guesses about when the event is going to happen? Might not be able to go depending on when it is. So just wanted to put the UW robotics club up here and maybe cya later this year at mech wars.

Do you mean the dates for Robogames? If so it is April 23-25. I am going to end up skipping a day of classes in order to make it, but unless you have exam reveiws it is worth it. How much department support do you have for your club? You may be able to get excused from classes.

Also depends if I can get money to get down there and stay somewhere but we will see, first need to build, program and complete a robot. Uhh we have no support whatsoever unfortunately but I have emailed several companies inquiring if they could sponsor our club or not but haven't gotten any replies yet.

and darrellt I really like miss alignments intuitive use of an android phone as a brain, its come such long way aswell.

Status: still in the progress of machining some parts and coding the steps

I don't really have any meaningful pictures to post right now but here's a brief description about the structure of this robot:

Microcontroller: one dsPIC33F
Legs: modified Lynxmotion BRAT
Weapon: single toy tank air soft gun
Battery: A123 6.6V battery
Camera: Trendnet IP camera
Wireless: UART through XBee
Control: Laptop through serial connection
It has pan-and-tilt for pointing the gun and camera. All the circuit are wired on perforated breadboards.

We are a team of about 10 people. We started this when we were in first year second semester and now we are in second year first semester (Waterloo has weird co-op system). This is more or less our first mech, though some of us did some highschool robotics competition.

Due to low budgets, we have really been hecking things (such as our sketchy board and connector cables). It's still in the progress and the walking haven't really been tested with everything on yet. But we will make it work! :veryhappy:

We are from UW too! But it's University of Waterloo! (bad joke, I know..)
Anyways, what year are you in? And yes, you have no idea how many classes I missed to build that (machine shop is often full in after-class time)! xD

Do you guys have like a school endowment fund? We basically got about $2000 from there and that's all we have. We asked companies for money too, but never got anything yet (or we just didn't try hard enough). But actually the flight from Waterloo to San Francisco would take up most of the budget.....

Well CLYDE is dead. He's been sitting in a couple boxes since last summer. After much re-engineering, programming, mcu change, etc...Something else completely different emerged. I now present you .... WARCHILD!

Most of the main part is completed. Still need to attach the XBee, add some protective casing and add the ammo feeder.
Also, still working on the software...

I really don't get how others can make theirs so small. We have many boards and a giant battery. Perhaps it's because we made everything on perforated boards and DIP components.
