This is an idea I had recently that I'm working on implementing. It should be a relatively easy and inexpensive project. Next to the drive motors, the most expensive part of the project should be diodes, transistors and other simple circuit components.

The idea is to build a robot that can move toward light sources without any processors. Using reversed biased LEDs as sensors, I intend to build a simple control circuit for the motors that will result in movement towards sources of light. I'm still working out the details for this circuit, but will post a diagram once I've got it working on a breadboard.

At the mechanical end, I'm going with a triangular drive system, with the wheels pointing out of the vertices of an equilateral triangle, which in my build will probably end up being between 6 inches and one foot on a side. I'm considering wood as a construction material.

I am using the Solarbotics GM-2 motors and GM available from the Trossen website
