Hello,

I am a masters student at the academy of art university in San Francisco.

I have a character and I would like to make an animatronic head of him.

The character is a bird and I want to make the eyebrows raise, the lower beak open and close, the upper and lower eyelids raise and lower seperately.

I want the eyes to be able to move all the way around in a circle.

I have a friend who has his PhD from M.I.T. and said he can help me wire the whole thing together, the only thing is he is not sure of what parts it will take to build the internal frame and exactly what motors, gears, and systems I will need for the inside.

If someone can send me an email so I can correspond, I have sketches and can talk to you over the phone if someone can help.

Sorry about the multi-posting, it's I have never had to research this stuff before and I don't know what forum topic to put this under.

My friend from M.I.T. is a smart dude and usually could answer questions about this stuff, but the fact that I stumped him worries me. Not that I bit off more than I could chew, it just means I have to appeal to a large group of people who know a hell of a lot more than I do. And I know if most circumstances that people wouldn't want to usually help others who have NO knowledge.

But for this project I have the scope, and the means for wiring it, I just need to know what parts I will need exactly and how it should all come together.

So I truly do appreciate any help that someone can offer.

Is anyone on here in the San Francisco Area?

Is it big as a house or small as a mouse?

It will be the head of a bird, and the whole piece will be around 2.5 - 3 feet high and that is including a small portion of the shoulders that will simply act as a base. if you want to see a sketch send me you email and I will give an easy idea of what I want to do. It is way more simple compared to some stuff I have seen on the internet.

this is the character.

This is the sketch for the skeleton and functions I know it's kind of hard to read, but if you want me to I can send the full page to whomever if you email me [email protected]

Myspace pictures cannot be seen by non myspace people. You will have to post pix from an open site.

You can use servos with linkage to make things move.

Building the thing is up to you. It's odd to me that an art student working on a masters in art is having difficulty constructing an artsy project. Anyway, here's a cool animatronics toucan for some inspiration http://forums.trossenrobotics.com/showthread.php?t=3788 and a Google search for animatronics http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=zHc&ei=kw5oS_j-IIHcsgP2xvmBBQ&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&ved=0CA4QBSgA&q=animatronics&spell=1 That should get you going.
