Well, after a lot of delays, its finally here!


Feature List:

- full speed (1.0 mbps) bidirectional wireless access to to the bioloid bus
- onboard power terminal, power switch, fuse
- SYNC_READ command implemented onboard to reduce latency
- can handle most common wifi network security protocols (WEP, WPA)

What's the weight of the total thing? Also what's the range and current draw?
Can this replace the Bioloid controller?
In the manual you are talking about humanoid robot. Where would you place the board in it?
I know, too many questions, sorry.

One last thing. I'm guessing you designed it for some type of project. Can you share with us how it was used.

The board with all parts weighs about 32 grams. The range is unknown - it depends mostly on the range of your wifi router. It handles 802.11b/g (guess I should mention that in the manual). Current draw depends mostly on the current draw of the wifi module, which is 250 mA during transmit, and 190 mA during receive. The rest of the components are very low current draw, certainly less than 50 mA total.

This can replace the bioloid controller on the robot, but the actual "control" has to come from a PC or something like that. From a technical standpoint, this is like using one of my USB bus interface boards (or a USB2Dynamixel) but without the USB cable.

If you were building a Bioloid humanoid, you could certainly place this board where the CM-5 normally goes.

And no, I didn't really design this for a specific project. In the end we identified one place we can use it in the Brainbot project (inside the voodoo doll). This board has sort of been my Bioloid Holy Grail for a few years now, going way back to the very first PC <-> Bus interface (http://www.bioloid.info/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=pc+serial). We tried back then to do it, but we couldn't get the wifi module available then to work at 1.0 mbps.
