Does anyone have any advice on creating a "Head" for a humanoid robot? How do you come up with your designs and ideas?

isn't it more a function of what is going to be in the head? If the head is just for show, then it doesn't really matter, and should be something that you find aesthetically pleasing. If the head is going to have sensors in it, then the sensors will probably dictate the design.

Charlie's head shape was dictated by the webcam and IR sensor that it held. Same goes for Squidword. The closes thing that I have to a humanoid has no head at all.

Don't know if this helps at all.

If you want it to have movement, talk, etc, consider the following (based on size and weight considerations):

Very small: Furby (http://lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5913&start=0) (ebay for $5-10, can control eyes and mouth)

Smallish: Chimp head (http://www.youtube.com/user/defwheezer#p/a/u/0/rTOqh3tdRc0) (by Woowee, ebay for $40-60, can control eyes and mouth, head)

Life size human: Elvis head (http://www.robocommunity.com/forum/thread/12567/Elvis-Video-Skinless-and-to-become-the-Elvinator-Project/) (by Wowwee, ebay for $60-80, can control eyes and mouth, head)

All of these can be hacked with add on servos or use the original motors/controllers fairly easily.
