View Full Version : TurtleBot-like hardware platform?

Hi all,

I love the idea of the TurtleBot kit available from Willow Garage. Unfortunately, they won't sell "just the hardware"; i.e., I'd love to get the platform hardware to bolt onto my Create without getting the Kinect and other electronics, which I already have or don't need.

Would Trossen Robotics be able to put together and sell an iRobot Create platform kit similar to the platform hardware in the TurtleBot kit, with electronics being optional? Alternatively, does anyone know another iRobot Create for sale? (I know I can build one, but my jerry-rigging attempts are pretty lame compared to some of these pre-built kits.)

Thanks!

If all you are looking for is the laser-cut decks, probably the best route to take would be to design the decks in CAD and send it out to a laser-cutting facility.

I found a couple of pre-fabricated decks at: http://www.zagrosrobotics.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=524 and http://www.zagrosrobotics.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=607

I could not tell from the website what these decks are made of? In my case, I just picked up a few 12" x 1/8" clear acrylic disks (http://www.tapplastics.com/shop/product.php?pid=140&) from Tap Plastics for $8.95 each. Then I used a few of these standoffs (http://www.lynxmotion.com/p-654-aluminum-hex-standoffs-ff-1-1516-x-14-4-40-tapped-10.aspx) I already had from Lynxmotion. But I'm guessing there is a less expensive way to do the standoffs.

Looks like Vex Robotics has some cheap standoffs of various lengths. These are 10-packs or 4-packs depending on length. (The Lynxmotion standoffs in my previous message are 10-packs but they only go up to just under 2".)
