I haven't tried it personally, but I find the new chipKIT to be quite compelling. It is programable via MPLab and Arduino IDE. Supposedly Arduino code and hardware compatible, and from what I've read so far it is _mostly_ so, while running Arduino sketches (code) 9-133x(!) faster than the fastest Arduino AVR based board.

S (http://www.digilentinc.com/Products/Catalog.cfm?NavPath=2,892&Cat=18)tarting at $26.95 for the "UNO" version seems like a no-brainer to try out, I'm going to soon.

Also available from distributors, I like Mouser 'cuz I live in the Dallas area and I get my orders the next day if I place my order by 8PM Central.
