This is the promo video for next years maker faire.

We are working on the dates for next year but it should be the 3rd weekend of June in the same venue as this year, our Union Station.

Mech warfare will be back along with other types of robot competitions.

Love it. Its a really nicely put together video. I wish I had been there this past year, but I want to make it to 2012 if I can. Hopefully I will have money left over for travel to get there.

Great video! Hopefully I can make it out next year.

This event was really well organized and there were a ton of cool people there. I really enjoyed the highlight on robots there as well. Looking forward to next year.

Ha! I'm in the video - that's a surprise! That's me flying my quadcopter in the split screen shot with the Power Wheels racer guys.

I just want to second everything people have said - the KC Maker Faire went off great. Well organized, well attended and a good time was had by all.

Call for Makers for the Kansas City Maker Faire is about ready to start. Dates will be June 23rd and 24th! The robot area will be bigger this year with lots of room for robots and robot projects. We still have the Mechwarfare arena and kungfu arena from last year. We can also easily add a soccer field or area for sumo or line following with little problems. Send me an e-mail if you need more details or information or if you want to be on the robotic area mailing list.

If you want to participate in the Kansas city Maker faire you need to fill out and submit the call for Maker's form. This will make the job of our venue (Union Station) and their event planner easier. As soon as the call for makers is over they will start planning and organizing the event. Who goes where, who needs power, who needs more than just a table ( the mechwarfare arena is a good example!).

01-18-2012, 11:28 PM
Where's the form?

01-19-2012, 10:50 AM
Call for Makers will start on Jan 23rd. There will be a link here http://www.makerfairekc.com/ . I will post if any thing changes. Union Station was very happy with the robot area last year. They just want more robots and things going on in the area.

01-26-2012, 10:28 AM
Call for Makers is now open for the Kansas City Maker Faire! Go to the website and hover over the Participant menu item then click on the Maker link below it.

This a very cool video done by the Kauffman foundation on what is a maker and maker faire. The speaker is Tim O'Reilly, Founder and CEO, O'Reilly Media

Andrew just signed up yesterday to come to the faire for Mech warfare! We will keep the call for makers application open for as long as we can. So you still have time to decide on your plans.

Is there a 3d printer village?

02-18-2012, 12:28 PM
Yes, we will have a 3-d printer village. The KC Maker community has a very large fabrication community in its ranks. I will add that along with the Mech warfare arena we will have a large robotics area. This will included many local first teams and lego league teams.

I will also add that we will have many different areas as we had last year. Areas with arts, crafts, science projects, music and power wheels racing. I will post more information as plans and areas get finalized.

If you are in the area the Cedar Rapids Maker Faire is this Saturday!

It looks like there will be at lest 4 of us from the KC Hackerspace there. So if you are close stop by and say Hi!

After Robogames reminder, there is still time to sign up for the Mechwarfare competition at the Kansas City Maker Faire. We are about a month and a half out from the competition so go to the KC Maker Faire website and sign up.

This was a pretty fun event. The venu is pretty cool, and the people are great. If I could I would go again. One thing, this is a great low pressure place for testing a new mech/learning the game.

05-10-2012, 12:48 PM
Ok guys I have some servos and a up! 3d printer coming in the mail to me so I hope I have someone to compete against. I have a new gun design and armor design I plan on testing. I will have some teaser pics up in the next few days!

05-10-2012, 01:12 PM
I plan to go and hopefully my mech will cooperate and come along as well. Otherwise I'll just be sitting at a booth with my makerbot.

We just got the buildings out of storage and are now getting them ready for the KC maker faire on June the 23 and 24.

05-29-2012, 07:46 PM
I've been meaning to comment on how awesome those buildings look!
But won't the crumbling rock be crushed under the feet of 100 ton war machines? :-)
(Seriously, though -- wasn't there a hanging bridge that actually snagged on something last time?)

05-29-2012, 09:16 PM
Yes, we still have it! I just did not include it in the pictures.

05-30-2012, 07:03 PM
This is a break away bridge

05-31-2012, 01:39 PM
Geiger hated that bridge last year. It was amusing to watch him struggle with getting under it.

06-09-2012, 03:11 PM
Working on Metals for this year.

06-17-2012, 01:38 PM
Just finished repainting the buildings, so now we are all ready to go for next week!

06-17-2012, 02:55 PM
I am impressed, and you are way too meticulous for anyone's good ;-)

I hope you'll be able to post videos of the event -- and I'd really like to see some operator videos (ideally, both operator videos in split screen ... :-)

06-18-2012, 10:19 AM
I have videos of the arena in action from last year and from i-hobby if you are interested.

I will try to take a lot of videos and pictures of the event and post them.

Update of the robotic area.

Everything is ready for the robotic area at the Kansas City Maker Faire 2012.

We have a Humanoid Kungfu and demo arena.

A sumo bot and line following arena.

The Mechwarfare arena was been repainted and is ready too go. It looks great.

I will start posting pictures this Friday during setup. Only a little over 4 days until the event starts. I can not wait.

07-27-2012, 07:39 AM
Its over and done now, are there any updates? What happened!
