What interest is there in having a mech warfare competition during I-Hobby? We can bring our buildings from Kansas City for the event.

I'd show, though I need to get guns working. I heard space at IHobby would be $$$, though? Do we have someone providing space?

Sounds like I maybe able to get a 12' by 12' space at the Chibots booth!

I would like to go, but I know I will not be ready by then.

I will show up, not sure what condition my bot(s?) would be at that time though, my new design definitely wont be finished.

Looks like I will drive to Chicago with the four builds and setup on Friday. Plans may change but I am a go to doing Mech warfare at I-Hobby! If anyone wants to help out or wants to compete just post to this thread.

Looked up the date. I'm presuming it's October 21-23 that we'd be there. Anything we need to do, registration-wise?

I wouldn't mind coming by, won't be competing or helping set it up though lol. Mech Warfare @ RG pretty much taps me out in terms of willpower for the year.

Hi all,
I might be able to answer some of your questions.

MW space will be available at no cost to the MW group. iHobby has been inviting Chibots since 2007, starting out with a small 10 x 10 ft sq booth. This year we have 800 sq ft, plus we also negotiated an extra 20 x 20 area specifically for Mech Warfare. Real estate per sq ft averages around $13 (USD). You can see the contract (http://www.ihobbyexpo.com/Documents/2011_%20Booth_Contract.pdf), just as reference, taking into account that this is just the empty space without tables or chairs. The 20 x20 space can be laid out any way that is best for the MW group. Check out the expo floor plan (http://www.ihobbyexpo.com/FloorPlan.htm), scroll down a bit till you see the bottom of the floor plan. In the middle there are two green squares. To the right there is a large red square, the LEGO play area (booth 2502). Our spaces are 2402 (to the left of the LEGO area) and 2302. Hover the mouse pointer over the 2302 booth area<g>. A few more notes:

1. What does MW need? Chibots can request a reasonable amount of tables and chairs, but we need a number. Of course, the iHobby people get the last word on how many tables we get considering that it implies a cost to them, but it does not hurt to ask. The tables are typically 8 feet in length and 20 to 24 inches wide. If you need some sort of people barrier we (Chibots) have 2 or 3 stanchions that you can use.

2. There will be Chibots people from Wednesday (setup only), Thursday and Friday (trade only, public not allowed). If you need help setting up let us know so that we can arrange for some one to be there. If any one else from the Mech Warfare group that is local to the Chicago area wants to come in on Wed., Thus or Friday this is entirely possible. Please let us know.

3. We are working on the schedule of events and also would like to know what events Mech Warfare is planning. This is so that we can have a seamless schedule without time conflicts. Since it is a bit early to nail this, we can reserve certain time slots for MW demos or competitions. Any way the group wants it will work. Would time slots of 1 hour work? Do you need more time for a demo/competition? We suggestion having 2 demos/competitions on Sat and Sun, but this is up to you. We just need to know for logistic purposes.

4. We have a cutoff date of Sept. 18 to get the iHobby people a list of tables, chairs and people that will be at our booth (as exhibitors). Please keep this date in mind. If any one comes forward after this date wanting to attend they will have to pay the entry fee. We can get exhibitor badges (i.e. free admission) for those coming to our booth, but we need the list of names. Please provide first and last name.

5. The iHobby people want more information about Mech Warfare for their promotion. Chibots has information that can be provided, but I would like to ask the MW community to provide whatever information you would like used in the promotion. This is optional, since as I said we already have information that we’ll send along if none other is available. We want the promotional information to portray MW as an exciting, attractive and engaging activity. Both iHobby and Chibots will be promoting MW and the other exhibits, so any preferred promotional information is welcomed.

Just keep in mind the cutoff date. Both the iHobby people and Chibots get really busy after that date and changing thing around after the cutoff date is not feasible. I should also note thet iHoby Expo 2011 will be the last expo in the Chicago area. iHobby people communicated to us that the expo is moving to Cleveland Ohio for 2012 and possibly beyond.

With 19 days until the event, we have at least two quadrupeds and two tracked bots showing up for the event. I am still not sure if I will have a bot for the event. I am working on getting my humanoid bot ready for kungfu.
