So I'm doing a MASSIVE overhaul on Giger that may end up resulting in him not even being Giger anymore. This is a big project, and with Robogames a little over 4 months away, I need a backup plan in case I'm not finished in time.

Enter "Insanity Wolf", my RX-64 quad. I used my spare RX-64s and the remaining 64s in Giger's (now defunct) arms to build this, whipped up a model in Inventor and cut the parts out of black ABS. It'll use 2 AEG rifles and the wifi IP encoder setup I had in Giger the previous year. Running an Arbotix + RX bridge for electronics. Keeping this one really simple. Updates soon!

Hahahahhaha, have some +rep from me sir. Well played.

What's scary is we're on the same 2v2 team....

We wanted to have the largest mechs possible on the field, so we could block all the streets and force the competitors into corners for painful deaths!

Physical build is 90% done.

Still working on the gait, needed to get a full payload on it. Video soon!

WOW.... simply awesome. I wish you could have kept the original giger as well that was awesome also but I guess keeping a bunch of separate mechs around can get expensive fast :)

Anyway great job. Do those servos not overheat trying to hold your mech in that position? I have some 5990s on my mech and they can get pretty hot when trying to hold a position.

Naw, I can pretty much walk any way I want to and the servos are fine. They're strong enough that they're barely under load.

Wow

That's ..insane..

Brutal and awesome design on the head/top section! I assume you've hidden a camera inside it?

Can't wait to see it in shooting action.

I wasn't expecting such an upright pose (in fact the foot design indicates you weren't planning such?). I think I can see the glimmer of the camera eye in the first pic, too.

And ya... 5990s to RX64 = no comparison, right? :)

It appears the NUKE generated IK engine gets a little wonky with larger robots, not entirely sure. That upright pose is allowing for it to not run out of range, and the motors handle it fine, so why not. I actually kind of like it more upright, looks more intimidating.

I believe that is the On/Off switch -- shoot for the switch!!!

How wide is that thing? My guess would be about 18 inches? In any case...I'm impressed with how quickly it has come together.

Yeah it's a sparkfun Yellow Text/Blue Serial LCD. It displays a random Insanity Wolf meme upon startup, then shows current high temp and voltage. Red thing is a big on/off switch- great for prototyping. It'll have an aluminum shield for competition though.

Che- it's about 18" wide or so.

That's a mean looking Mech Warfare replacement for Giger. Well done!
Out of interest, do you set up the guns with a convergance, so the pellets cross over at a set distance, or are they set up parallel? - Just curious about the aiming of such widely spaced guns, as they seem to be in a 'fixed' position.

Sweet! Nice work on the linkage system. The whole quad looks pretty heavy. Whats the total weight of the beast?

It's 5.3kg minus the scoring system, threw it on the scale last night.

Update!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1A4TRNf9Zk

I added RX-28s for weapon-yaw, so I can control the focal point of the aiming.

Still need to close up the torso and mount the vregs for the RX-28s. Scoring system is being installed on the lower half. Video feed is totally functional. Almost done!

Also, I'm throwing down the Robo-Tractor Pull gauntlet with Elaughlin. Bring it suckah (yes I know, I need rubber feet).

Darkback - I need some goo trash talk from you on Tybs here. We are gonna have a battle at Robogames!
