Quick question. Can anyone verify that the encoders on the new 6v RobotDC Motors work? (http://www.trossenrobotics.com/p/Robot-DC-Gearhead-Motor-6v180rpm.aspx)

I connected them to a robogaia two axis encoder counter Arduino Mega shield (http://www.robogaia.com/two-axis-encoder-counter-mega-shield-version-2.html) and I'm not seeing any counts. I can swap the motor out with one that has US Digial encoders and it works fine. Also, the cables tested out fine using a continunity tester.

Any ideas.

I thought that I would post that my Budget Bot encoder issue has been resolved.

Using a scope I was able to determine that it is definitely necessary include pull-up resisters on the quadrature encoder outputs. In my setup, the quadrature outputs connect to robogaia which does not have pull-ups, I added some 4.7K resisters. If your connecting directly to an Arduino, the enabling the Arduino's internal pull-ups may be sufficient.

Sorry I missed this, but yep- enable the internal pull-ups on the arduino and they work great.
