View Full Version : Mech Warfare 2013 Pre-Qualifications Thread

03-21-2013, 12:38 PM
This is the official prequalification thread for 2013 competition. Submission deadline is April 15th.

The draft rules were changed to include the following:

There will be an option to submit a pre-qualification video starting at the beginning of 2013 (Jan 1st, 2013). A thread will be created in this forum that will allow for competitors to submit a video of their Mech performing the qualification round for 5 minutes. A standard household item such as a plastic cup can be used in place of the Scoring Beacons. Submissions can be made from Jan 1st 2013 through April 15th 2013. The primary goal of this is to provide a bonus to competitors who are showing up prepared, but does not replace the on-site qualification requirement. Any competitor who submits an approved pre-qualification video will be awarded with a 1 HP "battle-hardened" bonus to their Mech for that year. In addition, they will have first pick at which timeslot on the qualifications day they prefer. Timeslots will be handed out on a first-come-first-serve basis. All remaining timeslots will be randomly seeded by any competitors who did not submit a pre-qualification video.

Here is a perfect example of a qualification video (RA):

The main focus here is that you have a mech capable of running for 5 minutes continuously via wireless control and video feed, and weapon systems functional. You do not need to test/verify scoring equipment as we will have to do that during qualifications anyway (though I suggest you show up with that fully functional and tested, watch for EMF!)

Go go! RA is the first pre-qualified, so they will have a 1 HP bonus and choice of their qualification timeslot on Friday.

Hello -

The pre-qualification video for my mech, Boojum, has been uploaded. A few notes:

1. I couldn't get good WiFi coverage in my garage or driveway, so the thing was filmed in my living room. That means viewers get a little tour of my house and get to meet my girlfriend, Tracy, and the dog, Abby.
2. Because I didn't want tons of airsoft pellets in my living room, there's no target shooting. I do fire the gun. I tried to shoot out the door, but even those ricocheted off the storm door and bounced back in !
3. I overlayed the control software image over the mech footage. I did not try very hard to sync them, however. The lag you see in the video is not indicative of actual operation.

That's it. Enjoy !

Here is NOMAD's pre-qualification video.

I would like a qualification time slot on Friday after 2pm if at all possible.

You really showed those cups who's boss :-) I'm envious of you. (My bot is disabled, crying in a drawer)-:

Here is TwitchMX's prequal. Shot with my spare D-Link camera attached to the chain of a hanging light fixture :D

6 targets... Gun jammed while I was going after the last one. First jam in several weeks, bah.

And of course Numa makes an appearance and gets shot in the face. (I used empty cupcake liner containers with post it notes for visibility.)

Here is pre-qual video for Nomad from Tucson. We did not realize there was another one named NOMAD... be afraid, be very afraid.

NOMAD fears no one! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA! I see you are running the AI-ball as well. Have you had any issues with the video dropping out? I have experienced video dropping out occasionally but hitting refresh on the browser brings it back. Wondering if that has been your experience as well. I have the Trendnet camera as well, but would prefer to run the AI-ball since the weight is negligible.

Pre-qual video for HD2. It is still Monday here, so I hope I made it :)

Actually I'd prefer the pre-qual deadline to be a month earlier. Having a deadline helps tremendously! :)

HD2 looks very cool! What are the contents of the two black boxes? Is the first a small PC with wireless, and the second a project box container for seveo controller?

Also, anyone wanting to hit that has to be able to aim pretty high :-)

And he'd have to aim very low :) I'll have no problem if he goes to the Chicago event in 2014. M-O's (short) about 9" tall.
