View Full Version : Where would I get wheel encoders for wheelchair motors?

Groucho will be powered in a differential drive by two wheelchair motors. I will be removing the brakes so I'll have access to the rear motor shaft and a place to put the encoders in.

Where should I look for encoders?

Thanks in advance.

Digikey has quite a few nice encoders: optical, mechanical, capacitive, magnetic, etc. The CUI AMT-series capacitive encoders are something I've been drooling over for quite a while. They have mounting holes for several common motor sizes, and come as a kit with multiple sleeve adapters for a lot of popular shaft sizes and all the installation tools except a screwdriver.

Thank you, I will look into them.

If you can find used motors from a Quantum 6000Z wheelchair, they have encoders and brakes OEM installed.
I found two on e-bay for $150.00(but to me they are priceless)
