I've been testing the arm with arbotix_python (http://wiki.ros.org/arbotix_python) and it seems not to work very well with the MX dynamixels. You can read and write but it doesn't correspond with the desired/read position.

I've not used the arbotix_python ROS package but looking at the wiki and based on your description of the problem I would first guess you haven't set the "ticks" parameter.

~dynamixels/<servo>/ticks (int, default: 1024)

Number of ticks, for EX-106s, you would pass in 4096, other servos likely won't need this altered.

If this is true you'll also want to change the neutral, range, ticks, min_angle, max_angle, max_speed parameters to match your MX servos. http://wiki.ros.org/arbotix_python#Parameters
