View Full Version : Why we need to have the customized webcamera cable, not using the standard USB cable?

I am not a hardware guy, so wondering why we need to cut both the USB cable and the 4pin cable, then connect them together, which is once again connected to the USB port.

There must be some strong justifications for this, right?

Basically, it is all about fitting all the cables within the confines of the HROS-1 chassis. The standard USB-A connector works just fine, but it protrudes quite far from the box created by the torso frames and standoffs. The PCB with USB traces and molex connector is much more compact than a molded USB-A cable connector and much less expensive than trying to find a right angle USB-A connector (or making an adapter out of a PCB with a vertical mount USB-A socket).

Hi Tician,

Thanks for explaining.

I think I will just test the standard USB camera first to see the how the OpenCV works. Cheers.
