View Full Version : HR-OS1 + Pi Zero (HR-OS-Zero?)

So I manages to snag a couple of Raspberry Pi Zeros (https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/raspberry-pi-zero/) friday at micro center and started playing with them a little. Now while the Pi Zero is an awesome little computer for $5, it's not ideal for the HR-OS1. The built in hub makes wifi and bluetooth so much less of a hassle and the smaller footprint doesn't help much once inside the HR-OS1.

Of course that didn't stop me from putting the Zero in an HR-OS1 anyway! I loaded Raspbian Jessie onto an SD card, hooked it up wo Wifi via a USB hub, then downloaded the framework. I did need to download some dependencies to get everything working.

sudo apt-get install libbluetooth-dev
sudo apt-get install libjpeg-dev
sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev

At this point I was able to use dxl_monitor to control each servo with no problem. RME however is a different story. While I'm able to set individual positions on the servo (via the 'set' command) Poses seem to lock up the system ('play' and 'g' both). The servos lock at their first position, and I can actually hear them working while 'playing' so I'm guessing somethings gone awry with the code / serial port. I've tried Kurt's serial fix and R3n33's win RME to no avail.

I'm not sure how much more time I'll spend on this - The Pi 2 and the Edison are just a lot better suited to the HR-OS1 than the Zero. But its definitely been fun to play with.

Sounds interesting. May have to pick up a zero... Assuming I can find one out there...

Edit: But may be some time from now as it looks like no one has them in stock... (Adafruit had them earlier as part of some kits, but thos are sold out as well)
