Just wanted to get an idea of how many competitors we might have at the 2017 Robogames Mech Warfare Event. Post "Yes", "Maybe", or "No". Also if you know anyone from previous years, pass the word.

I'll be there and I'm sure we'll have 4-5 others from R-Team as well.

Columbia U Robotics Club is currently applying for funding to come. Should be able to join with between 1 and 3 mechs.

byi,

How is Columbia U Robotics Club robot build going? Are you guys still thinking on entering Mechwarriors at Robogames? There are 16 registration days left on the Robogames website before registration is closed for 2017. Hope you guys can still make it.

We are currently on track to complete a new quad. Also, I might retrofit my quad from 2013 if I have some spare time. We will register as soon as we have our travel funding confirmed.

I'm signed up for not one, but two mechs! My daughter is strapping a gun on the Phantom X Quad MKII.
(It also has some torsion springs to help with the load in the knees from a mod I made previously.)
Meanwhile, Onyx is ... still a pile of parts. But there's PLENTY of time left.

When's the last day for qualifying video?

April 15 midnight, per 2017 rule set.

Only 2 days left to register! Register just under the wire if need be but don't wait too long.

When's the last day for qualifying video?

We talked it over today and decided we will take qualifying videos after April 15th.

Most of us are traveling on the Thurs the 20th, so to be safe if you have a late posting it would be best to get it in by Wed., the 19th. Depending on what time we all get in on the 20th we'll try to check when we arrive.

I'm trying to decide if I should pay the money for pit access? Not having been to one before...

As far as I understand it, there's either the money for a registration for a compeing team (http://robogames.net/registration.php), or the money as a spectator. "VIP pass" is a kind of spectator; regular spectators won't get to talk to other robot makers, but other robot makers and VIPs do.
If you have the participant registration, you get a badge, which generally gets you in wherever you want to go. So, if you're bringing a bot, that's the way to go.

If I understand the terminology correctly, the "pit" is where teams prepare their bots for the lexan-cage battle fights.
As a contestant, you'd be able to walk around there as-is (at least I was, previous years.)

If you don't have a 'mech ready for this year, place an order for a Pololu Zumo (https://www.pololu.com/category/170/zumo-32u4-robot) right now, and register for the sumo :-) The 'bot plus the competitor registration is cheaper than the VIP pass. And you get a cute little bot out of it!

That being said, maybe this year they split things into two houses, and color badges based on which house you're "supposed" to be in. (The competition is spread over 2 big halls, plus outside for the poor Magellan people getting rained on.)
Never seen that before, but things change and I've given up on accurately predicting the future. If I were taking bets, I'd say it's like previous years.

I plan to be there about 11-ish on Friday, depending on traffic.

Depending on school and traffic, my daughter may not get there until after 5pm on Friday.

We have registered as one team with two robots, so worst case, I can qualify the robot alone -- unless there's some rule about the registered pilot must do it?

Anyway, I take it most of you coming from non-driving distance are traveling tomorrow, so I wish you happy flight, and see you on Friday!

You can do the check in for both Mechs.
