Re: Mini oscilloscope and function generator

The digital is 100MSPS. Don't know about the other questions...but given that it's USB2, it can't be a raw stream regardless, as 100MSPS over 16 pins is 200MB/s, way beyond what USB2 could support. ...

Re: Mini oscilloscope and function generator

I would check out the digilent analog discovery. Does 2ch analog function generator, 2-channel scope, and 16ch logic I/O.
Software is pretty damn good for it, and it's small enough to use...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

Get Sketchup (super easy to learn, and what I use for quickie 3D stuff for printing) and signup for 3Dhubs (a friend of mine started that company, it's basically crowdsourced 3D printing). Or find...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

Easiest way to do a repeating scan is to do a complete rotation like r3n33's original approach, but instead of a single mirror, use a pyramid of mirrors. (faceted mirrors on a continuous spin is how...

Re: fire detection and extinguishing subsystem

Thanks for the link! I hadn't thought to look at digikey (yeah, kicking myself), but at least that now gives two options.. Buy camera, socket, and breakout & solder socket yourself and save $130, or...

Re: fire detection and extinguishing subsystem

    You could use this:
    https://www.sparkfun.com/products/13233
easy interface to just about anything (I2C for control, SPI for transferring the image)...easy to grab an image, threshold it, and find...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

I still somewhat disagree with that calculation (the precision has nothing to do with the step size in either case, but rather the mounting precision/stability), but that's a discussion for another...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

Sorry, I think we are talking past each other. Let me clarify. Let's say you have a 200 step/rotation motor, a 4:1 gear ratio, and a best case of 1/4 step microstepping, and the mirror is 50mm...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

Not quite, you have three error sources, sensor to body, magnet to sensor, mirror to magnet. The only one you measure in the hall case is magnet to sensor, the rest are assumed to be small (and...

Question(s) Re: How to detect / find plastic objects outside

I think it -is-possible passively. The key is (as others have pointed out) a matter of selectivity--you need something that 1. Presents a strong signal when interrogated, even if only a small...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

Also, if you used a tapering blade, you could actually measure both axes, or in the current one-axis rotation, determine any elevation changes (by measuring both the centroid and width)

    and nd any...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

Also, with a blade of a very known width, you should be able to not only centroid it to well < a step size on your stepper, but also get enough steps across it to get statistics on step size over...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

Problem with sensing the gear rather than the actual optical surface is you can't percieve misalignment. Think of it this way, the angle you care about and want to know is the rotational angle of...

Just For Fun Re: LIDAR-lite 360 Mirror Scanner

    Two quick questions:
    1. Any thoughts yet on adding a 2nd axis?
    2. Any thoughts on a pop-up (or blade-style, just turn edge on to make it dissapear) or fixed (yeah, causes the same narrow angle...
  15. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

Okay, ran virtual commander in processing (again, thanks R3n33!) with current Xbees (uartsBee, bot) and virtual commander controls it. IT LIVES. So yeah, likely commander board is the cause. ...
  16. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

The parts should hopefull solve the key issue, thank you very much. R3n33's input allowed me to execute the virtual link, which I'll now be trying with the Xbees in line (instead of direct FTDI...
  17. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

please tell me, specifically, what I said that was personally directed or hostile?

Other than "which shouldn't surprise me", nothing was even said tongue in cheek. Everything else was either...
  18. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

The control panel part didn't show up with virtual commander...I had to do it command line as stated. Odd. It did show up (preferences-security-etc solution) for Dynamanager, but not for...
  19. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

Yes, the reason I didn't do that originally is I didn't have to do that for the other Java app, which executed just fine, without any of the command line changes. hence the frustration.
  20. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

As I explained, I do understand the level of examples, projects, etc for this platform, and I understand that it is a development platform. My frustration is that when I build development hardware,...
  21. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

Okay, virtual commander installed via processing method (regular executable error, as r3n33 discovered), connected ( thanks r3n33!), and directly connected to hexapod.

    virtual commander works,...
  22. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

Yes, which is why I set it to 3.3 when it was in the commander chassis, on battery, with Xbee, etc, on initial tries, and then switched to 5v when attempting to reprogram (to verify program).
  23. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

Thank you for your judgement, its really not required. Sometimes frustration is simply frustration.

My frustration is directed not at users or you, but at Trossen, as I have yet to encounter a...

  26. Re: New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

  27. New PhantomX hex communication(?) Issue / Extremely frustrated with the lack of coherent instructions

    Editing post.
I was overly frustrated when I wrote this and other posts. I want to apologize for those that took offense. I didn't mean to present a negative attitude, we have all been there,...
