And a happy Pi Day to you ;)
The beginner kit has 4 servos. If you need between 6-18 that's pretty shy.
One more video with the newer arm code.
YouTube - Lieutenant Dan
Apologies for the poor lighting, the CFLs don't do much for recording video, and the turtles have hijacked all the clamp lamps...
Okay, here goes. Please consider Lt. Dan as an entry. I know he's only half a humanoid (the top half), but I hope he still qualifies.
Lieutenant Dan is my entry for the Junkbot 3 contest. darkback2 wanted animated humanoids, so I figured I'd build one that "ain't got no legs". Hope it still qualifies.

Or, "A junkbot for a boring, rainy, Sunday afternoon".
I got really tired of not working on my current projects (futurlec said they shipped my stuff a _month ago_, grrr). So to kill this afternoon...
One of these days, when I actually have one to photograph :)
For now I was just curious about general interest in the idea (not much so far). I haven't even managed to order the proto from...
Also note the significant negative camber of racing wheelchairs, which was the first thing I thought of when I saw Ironman's photos :)
Depends on the robot, doesn't it? If the 'bot is big enough to hold 84 servos, it's probably big enough to hold this :)
Due to a recent desire to stick an Arduino in a Lego project, I've come up with an AVR breakout board that mates with standard Lego bricks. Not a wholly original idea, I'm sure, but I couldn't find...
Greetings, Ale. Love the handle.
Your English is better than that of many Americans ;)
Sounds pretty slick. I may be interested in such a thing (and the bot to go with it), but not until after Faire (June-ish).
Funny, I'm within a couple days of posting an "anybody else interested"...
LOL That almost made Monster spray out my nose.
So was I (but only sort of) ;)
LOL Here, maybe this chart will help;
Black -> 0
Dark-ish Grey -> 1
Dark Grey -> 2
Another Grey -> 3
Light Grey -> 4
Not quite so dark grey -> 5
Another Grey -> 6
Another dark-ish grey -> 7
The max232's may be handy for having the micro talk back to the PC, or for serial communications to other micros (or some sensors, or anything else that speaks serial).
I can't say for the STK500...
Compared to the mega8? Yeah, it's only got two more A/D. But, it's also got 2 UARTs (8 has 1), 128k of flash (8 has 8), and a grand total of 53 I/Os (8 has 20 I think).
McMaster-Carr could work. Grainger maybe. Where are you located? I know a place in Riverside, CA that has stuff like that too.
Edit = Hit McMaster link above. In "Find Products" search box type...
Right. My mind was elsewhere with the older arduinos with serial.
The PonyProg thing should be a serial port ISP though. Here's another schematic for a serial port one (sold at sparkfun). It's...
Put kidbot in a hamster ball? He'd probably love that :)
Older Arduinos used an Atmega8 and a serial port connection, without a max232. This page contains a schematic showing it hooked up with some transistors and resistors. Here's another one that should...
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that.
Yeah, definitely a drawback. Offensive, even.
And, apologies to all. I didn't realize until just now that it seems they don't have stores outside of Southern California and Las Vegas.
No...
Not sure if anyone's interested, but here goes.
Hobby People is having a sale through tomorrow (looks like store-only, ends Jan 18, 2009, didn't know until today), and the M.A.S.H. helicopter is...
Depends on what you're planning to make with it. If you're just prototyping buy the cheap proto stuff. If you're after finished parts, it still depends on what your goal is.
That said, I've used...
ROFL
I wish I knew why/when that bit lodged up there. At least I should be able to remember why/when the EMI part was stored alongside it :)
Perhaps "Finger Stock"?
http://www.allproducts.com/ee/ajato/finger_stock.html for one pic example, or...
Congrats on slashdot too ;)
Congrats Adrenalynn!
To clarify, the screaming fan isn't bearing noise, it's wind noise.
The fourth wire on the fan is some sort of PWM line (some info), which allows the motherboard to vary fan speed based off proc...
Agreed, that would be strange :)
Dug deeper, found one swollen capacitor on the mobo, and chunky dry-ish thermal paste under the heatsink. I've no idea if there are any visible signs of a conked...
Negative. I always had one or the other fan blowing through the heatsink/heatpipe device.
That said, since the fan was apparently dying anyway, it's possible it was under-blowing for an unknown...
Hi all, thanks for clicking :)
This morning my PC (a ca2004 Dell, PIV 3GHz) started screaming like a jet engine. Took it apart and found the proc cooling fan to be the culprit. After a bit of...
Or swap out the hubs' lugs for longer units, and throw in a spacer. Unless I read that backwards.
Got a pile o' electronic tidbits. Some AVRs and an AVR programmer, crystals, caps, diodes, couple H bridges, some 7805s, FTDI usb-serial cable, PING))) sensor, couple Sharp IR rangefinders, a few...
Bottle of Sailor Jerry just waiting for midnight. Just under 8 hours to go... Doubt I'll make it that long tho :)
Don't forget, y'all, "they" are adding another leap second this year. Wait and...
If all you're after is a camera, you can do _way_ better than the camera in the Rovio, for half the price. Rovio's camera is pretty cheap, very low picture quality (especially in low light) and seems...
:) That's the + in $130+. Though, technically, building the kid was free. It's just the maintenance and upkeep that's a killer...
I guess some folk might have to buy a few rounds first in order...
Kidbot new parts;
- 6 yards shiny fabric, thread to match, new needles -- $20, reject, er, clearance sale @Jo-Ann Fabrics
- Metal dryer hose (arms and legs) -- $10 @Lowes
