Hi Brooks,

Quick update: I am redesigning SA-Groucho to be a two-wheeled balancing robot (AKA a Mobile Inverse Pendulum Robot). This will allow him to fit better in our home.
However, before I go all crazy...
I now have two different wheelchair frames and a battery that doesn't fit either of them. So now I have to figure out how to modify one of the frames or else make a new frame from some 8020 aluminum...
This is probably a ridiculous answer, but it might be less expensive than the alternatives.
If it's possible to make blades of various known strengths, you may be able to run multiple runs with a...
Interesting. Thank you for bringing screw theory to my attention. I only had one course in kinematics and I don't remember anything about this, but it was 35+ years ago.
I'll read about it when I...
Sorry, I've been away and not working on robots. I'm hoping to help set up a robotics club for children and young adults, but that's up in the air now. I've ordered more Groucho parts from eBay,...
I learned interrupt programming back in the day to deal with sonars. It isn't difficult. The big thing one does in an interrupt routine is to make it very short (set a global variable) and return;...
It would really help of we could see the code. However, a few questions:
1. Did you set the pin as an input?
2. Did you set the pin to be an ADC?
I'm a bit rusty and am not that familiar...
I think that your problem is because the Pulsein actually waits for the pulse to come in, which can be long enough that it messes up your walking routine.
I have a couple of suggestions.
1....
I like it! Get some sleep.
It lives!!!!!!
It speaks!!!!!
But can it dance? And if it can teach a horse to dance, you've really got something. :)
(Sorry, too many Marx Brothers movies recently.)
For multi-camera vision you get the best results if you have a full definition of where all the cameras are. With a bracket, you'll be much more positive as to the exact location of the cameras.
Would slip-rings work in the middle of a chain, or would they mess up the signal?
I may have to experiment with this. They may add too much noise.
As I understand it, each servo contains a small microcontroller. If it isn't already filled with code and data, it should be a simple matter to add a routine to check the position at short enough...
The printer I'm looking at is the 3dMonstr that was a Kickstarter several months ago.
Right now I'm leaning towards the smaller printer with a 12" cube envelope. However, I also bought a much...
Thank you, but I did my research before getting into this. With the bigger printers the problem of something happening along the way gets much worse. If you flub an hour print, well, you just...
After reading the suggestions and thinking things over, I will be looking for an inexpensive table saw, a decent (hand held) jig saw, a drill press, and some various hand tools (a miter box, some...
It is a very nice project. And yes, artists and engineers should hang around together more.
Rather than riding, I'd love to see a video of it purring nicely at somebody's feet. :)
I picked this up at my local post office today (no mail delivery where I live because the boundary line is 20 feet away from my house). It was well packed, and I'm happy with it.
Thank you very much; I received the hexapod and am quite happy with it. Your shipping was excellent.
What is the difference between a jigsaw and a scroll saw? When I was a wee tad, my grandfather had a tool he called a jigsaw. It looks pretty much the same as the tools I've seen now called scroll...
Hi,
I have the basics of an electronics workshop, but I need some tools to build the bodies. I do have two 3d printers coming in, Real Soon Now, but I still need to deal with wood and metal...
My suggestion is to put it back on the Arduino again. Then you can make sure that the ID is set to 1 and that the baud rate is set to the rate set by the factory.
Sorry, thats all I've got.
Cute, but silly.
Seriously, I once read a study that said that if they could get virtual sex "right" it would be more addictive than any drug.
Very nice.
I can't be sure, but I think that 1/8th might be enough strength for you needs and only half the weight. I don't have a mill any more, so I'm going to have to try cutting and bending my...
Nice work up. And it looks like you've already got most of the central parts. I really look forward to seeing this as it comes along.
For a laser rangefinder, I picked up the rangefinder from a...
I think I understand one point of confusion. Please let me know if I'm right or wrong.
The IK function says to move a joint x degrees. The servo moves either x degrees clockwise or counter...
I would like to buy this.
Perhaps a simple test you could make is to move all the coca servos by 10 degrees positive with no correction.
Then if the left side moves differently than the right side, you'll know that you can...
Are you using a LynxMotion kit?
And could you post the same part of your code?
My thought is that the angle on the right is multiplied by -1 to get the servos on the right side to move in the...
Because Groucho will store data from the other robots of the Troupe (Harpo, Chico, and Zeppo). Also i plan to do some visual experiments and I may want stored feeds from all the cameras so I can...
The largest I've seen is 1 TB. I'm curious about the price of an 8 TB disk. Luckily I don't need one yet because I don't think I could afford it yet. :)
Zenta,
Thank you for running those tests. Now I have a bit better idea about how much my MX-64s really will hold.
Now I just have to figure out the weights of everything to keep the torque low...
Considering that the flash memory used in USB sticks and SD cards and mini-SD cards are mainly supposed to be used to transfer files (such as images from cameras) rather than be used as hard drives,...
I really like SSDs. I've never had a problem from them. I have two of the on my laptop and it runs like a charm. Groucho has the topside slot filled with one and has a 1 TB SSD on the bottom. I'm...
I tried to install things last night (I had found the Indigo install page), but following the instructions exactly got me a package not found message. I tried to do the full desktop download.
I...
Arrrrrgh!
I installed Ubuntu 14.04 on Groucho. I can't installed the current version of ROS (Hydro) because it doesn't support 14.04. And I can't install the latest version of ROS (Indigo) because...
The Arduino Uno and all of the clones I've seen has a USB device port. And I believe it has a number of It also has a huge community and a lot of prewritten code libraries for almost anything you...
Talk about herding cats... :)
But yes, this is an interesting discussion.
Given what I've seen of US academics, I'm with you on federal funding. And yes, I would like to see robotics and electronics taught in Art classes as well as in science classes.
When I was in high...
