Nice video. Well done.
Jon Hylands made something like this years ago called the Bioloid I/O Board. I own one, but I don't have any immediate plans for it.

That's a pretty cool device. Being able to set the motor control PWM values in a Dynamixel control table address is convenient.
You can't use the electric motor to brake? Or would that not work? My son's Dune Racer stops pretty fast, but he only weighs 42 pounds.
You don't necessarily need an Arbotix M with this setup. The PC could do everything.
Made a bit more progress, nothing much to show though. Installed raspbian on the Pi, configured Wi-Fi, updated it, and disabled the GUI. Connecting to the Pi with PuTTY and WinSCP, and I have code...
Looks like a really fun competition. Probably over the heads of my FTC kids at this point but maybe in a couple years. Wish I knew a couple roboticists in my area to team up with on something like...
PRC looks cool ... I bet my FTC team would love to do something like that. Don' think my 4yo is quite ready to give up his Dune Racer though.
Sounds cool, but what is PRS and AVC?
Very cool. Nice progress so far. Please keep us updated as you move forward. Also, more pictures and videos are always good. :)
I've been busy the past few weeks with other stuff like moving and setting up my office, setting up a new aquarium, family visiting ... but now I'm ready to get back on track with my projects.
I...
How do you like the pixy? I thought about picking one up, but the size kind of put me off. I ended up buying a havimo, which is tiny, but I've not done anything with it yet.
Please add pictures of the robot and also some video if you have it. :D
FWIW, the MX-64 in the shoulder can handle lifting that arm without the gearing. Unnecessary mechanical complexity creates additional points of failure.
You have probably seen this, but check out...
Interesting little custom arm. Is that carbon fiber?
Looks like you will be having a fun summer.
Please post a picture of the arm.
Unfortunately I know nothing of this "Arbotix GUI" you mention, but like Kurt said, you need to look at the manual.
Write a simple program to read the values of the control table and print them...
Any updates on this? Would be cool to see it in action.
Kurt, did you ever get your UP? I thought they were supposed to ship in May, but it's mid-June and still available for pre-order.
LattePanda looks interesting too, and it's also 5V, which is nice....
Lol. I didn't even catch that the first time I looked at it. Tunnel vision. Has nothing to do with your photoshop skillz. :)
Thanks for the idea, I had not even thought of that configuration. I'll...
Good to know thanks tician.
I was referring more to the resting position of having the legs tucked up in tight together, but that's a good point.
It's pretty easy to get the foot all the way under the femur. Here is an image...
Cool, thanks for the feedback. Space is limited so yeah, I wanted to make sure the coxa would not be bumping into anything and potentially limiting range of motion. I'm still planning the internal...
Thanks, good to see you tune in to the thread.
I'm glad you mentioned tibias because I'm making a decision what design to use. I did a little comparison to show the options:

If my USB2AX's are 3.2a, does that mean I have the latest firmware? Or should I update it?
Yeah, this stuff is making me feel like a kid again.
The AX-12 actually works really well with the Lynxmotion stuff. I'm finding that some holes need to be widened a bit here and there to get...
I own an Arbotix-M, but no plans to add an arduino board to Alph. I'll talk more about my experimentation with synchronizing movement in my "prototyping" thread when I shift my focus back to that...
Hi everyone,
Welcome to the build thread for my new custom Phoenix-based hexapod project named ALPH (or just Alph)!
The hexapod will use AX-12+ actuators and will be powered by a...
So...
If they have your email address (I don't see it on your public profile), and they know you are into Robotis stuff, then that means someone probably got hacked.... like the Trossen forums....
D'oh! Sorry about that! Lol. :robotsurprised:
"Like Google, but for Robots."
So you think the MX-64 is better? I wouldn't pretend to understand what you are talking about.
You might also want to take a look at the HerkuleX DRS-0602, which has a higher resolution than the MX-64T (12960 vs 4096). But the MX-64T may be good enough.
Hitec has a line of brushless servos now. Seem really nice for what they are, but I have no experience with them. Can't imagine having to run cables on a 20 DOF robot though. Daisy chaining is...
It's worth it if you have the income to support it. I know people who spend 10's of thousands playing golf. And people with $10k+ motorcycles, boats, etc. I actually don't think a $10k robot is that...
Ok. I assumed everyone on here was building hobby robots.
Dynamixel Pro look pretty awesome though. Too bad I'd have to hit Powerball to justify the purchase.
There are some available in the Trossen sale forum right now.
Not sure I agree on your prototyping comment. Depends on how heavily they were used. I scored 18 AX-12+ from a Comprehensive kit that...
This is why brushed motors have stuck around in RC rock crawling.
The Dynamixels seem to work well enough and last a long time. They use really high end motors. Of course this assume you are using them within spec (~1/5 stall torque continuous).
Also, think of...
Also, something else I've looked at is Harmonic Drive ... their FHA and RSF lines are brushless and look interesting.
HerkuleX is the closest competitor in the smart actuator space, and they use coreless motors, not brushless.
Of course brushless hobby servos have been around for a long time now.
