I actually had a design nearly exactly like that:

I switched away because I couldn't figure out a way to build one that was...
PETG is a reasonable comprise between durability, strength, and ease of printing. It has similar-ish properties to ABS, but can be printed without too much fuss. You don't need an enclosed build...
You can certainly make 3D printed frames that are plenty strong, it is just a matter of putting enough plastic in the right places. Nearly all the structural elements of my quad A1 are just printed...
More videozzzz:

Almost all the compliance is electronic (when I make an outtake video you'll be able to clearly see when that part fails)!
And some jumping with the new machine!

While I certainly applaud the initiative, I'm not sure that something hosted solely by Jon is necessarily better than staying here at Trossen? Ideally we wouldn't have to host anything. Barring...
The nice thing about hackaday.io, is that there is already an ecosystem for documenting projects similar to the trossen forums. Also, no one needs to host anything. Likely anyone hosting anything...
Since the Trossen forum has virtually zero traffic, and has been actually completely broken for much of the last couple of weeks, is it time to move mech warfare discussion to some other platform? ...
Here was a teaser video for the servos:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTGdk-vL41w
But I do! The servos are the "mjbots qdd100"! Can't you read the tiny stickers in the video? ;)
I'm not planning on making a bigger post until I have the devkits ready. I've found that people...
That's the plan. I'm expecting to have some beta development kits to sell in the next couple of weeks.

I haven't been idle... although this is just a teaser:

Seems like an interesting venue, but if you're hosting, I'll try to bring something!
That's curious. I've done more than a dozen boards with QFN parts through macrofab and haven't had a single one with the part assembled in an orientation I didn't expect. Plenty of other problems...
Isn't a day a better day when you learn something from a dictionary? (I suppose even a virtual "google dictionary"...)
A short video update:

Thanks for the video compliments. All the driving was Zia, with only a few minutes to practice beforehand. That gave me a free hand to mangle all the camera shots. ;)
Many of you have probably seen my work on Super Mega Microbot's various incarnations over in the Mech Warfare sub-forum. I'm hoping to keep competing there with variations on this robot but wanted...
Not dead yet...

This used *very* conservative parameters, as I don't really want to break things until I've done more testing and have more spares....
For those of us who do have enough space and are maybe looking to crib GenghisDhon's design (thanks for sharing Don), where was/is it posted?
Yep, as I said in person, I will be there. Mikhail should be able to make it to I think. Hopefully with at least 2 mechs, since I can drive!
Well, at least you are only a short drive away still, right? So you don't have to burn a travel day like most of us!

I already had to pack up...
This version is all gearboxes, 6x reduction planetary. All the previous jumping videos were with only direct drive motors. The gearbox versions have probably 12x the torque and still can go...
Mad props!
Now I can walk around and shoot for 10 minutes, that means I'm ready right?
spoiler alert... 10 or so minutes of *really slow* walking interspersed with a few BB shots
...
It is actually relatively efficient at just walking. The motors are all sized for running (although there is no way I'm doing anything like that soon). Just walking, my power tool battery should be...
Heh. Apparently I can't work the forum. Post should be updated with an actual picture I hope!
Because my robot wasn't big enough already...

20lbs and counting... Fortunately, both for everyone else and me, it is at best going to be a lumbering giant for the weekend.
Still have...
I've been meaning to ask what mill you use, or is it a homebuilt one?
<crickets...>
Guess that means no. :(
Those also look like really sharp edges... better to shred anything that gets too close I suppose. ;)
Yep, I've got the hardware encoder compressing to h264 with low latency for streaming over IP...
Well, like most tortoise and hare stories, you know how this will end. ;)
Yeah, I've got the pi3 doing aruco target tracking using whatever random technique is built into opencv. Without too much...
Not much functionally in this revision of the board... it supports the new 5S bus voltage and the RS485 based communcations protocol. It no longer has USB pass through, as the new turret has an rpi3...
I've been meaning to ask this for a while. Does anyone have bits to clean up all the stale sticky threads and maybe just sticky the ones which are still relevant?
And fortunately, the new gimbal control board seems to have functioned correctly on the first try. I'm basically out of time for another revision, so that was good!

Thanks! Yep, I'm planning on using a similar semi-custom 5.8Ghz video-over-IP as I used last time, but wanted to be able to transmit to the monitors standing in front of the arenas from my laptop. ...
GhengisDon: Do you plan on having a video display again? Any hint on what transmitter(s) R-Team is using so that I can get a compatible one to display my view?
