vCrib's Automated Gun Turret
The gun turret is based on a pan tilt servo system, which uses a 4-channel Phidget's USB servo controller to allow PC control. Using its standard security camera the unit doubles as a remote video survelliance device. A servo relay is attached to the electric firing mechanism in the gun. The PC software that controls the unit can be used manually or in autonomous mode with motion tracking.
Combined with the Virtual Crib home automation software, the gun can be brought online by the house when an alarm is triggered. The turret can be authorized to fire at moving targets. Resident safety is ensured by the automation software instructing the gun to go offline in normal situations and also by overriding the gun by cutting power to it with an appliance module.
Different types of guns can be mounted as the pan tilt system can control a 6lb load. Testing and safety warrent only the use of an airsoft gun, but water guns, metal BB guns, paintball guns, tazers and small caliber sidearms could be used. Some of these options can be dangerous and/or illegal and much care and research should be done before ever attempting to use any option that could cause damage to property or carbon-based life forms.

The photos are v1.2 which replaced the servo used for firing with a relay and the wiring was cleaned up a little.
