    5A+ Switching Voltage Regulators?

I'm in need of some switching voltage regulators that can support 5A or more of current. I can't find anything over 1A (like the ones here on Trossen's site). Is such a thing made or do I need to wire 5 of the 1A voltage regulators in parallel? I'd like to have an adjustable regulator, but if not I'll need one that can take 12V Vin and 6V Vout.

    Thanks,
    James

I posted a reply to a similar request a couple weeks ago:

Sweet Thanks! I was actually looking for something with the "external components" included in the package, so I don't have to solder together a circuit.

Yeah, that's kind of the holy grail for these things, which is why the Dimension Engineering parts are so nice...

    So you need a DC-DC 12v DC in, 6v DC out @ 5A?

I generally turn to Powerstream for stuff like that...

    http://www.powerstream.com/dc-3318.htm

    That's 12vDC to 6vDC @ 11A continuous

Wow! Powerstream has some really cool stuff. This is the first time I heard about them.

    I want one of these:

    or one of these:

If you didn't recommend this place, I'd think it was a scam site. It doesn't look like they've changed the theme since 2001.

I don't know how strong a recommendation, but they've delivered product to me before over the years, for about $750ish total.

They're very Trossen-like in that they're really just a reseller of Chinese imports and creative small manufacturers.

I own one of these, and would have recommended it, but noticed it was out of production. Ashame, it's done a good job off and on for several years.

I've used one of these before, but I believe it came from a place called "group mobile" or something like that... It's actually made by a company that is monetizing a discovery made at my ol' alma mater. I used it on a McKinley summit attempt for charging radio batteries and satellite phone batteries. They run about 8hrs on that little cell, but they have other options too. I believe their website is http://www.ultracellpower.com

Powerstream has a 4A continuous 120AC->12DC switching inverter in their "garage sale" for like $12. I just paid $35 for the exact same unit somewhere else last month. Works great, pulls 5A without heating up too much, and is super clean, almost lab-supply clean. It's a steal at $12.
