Thanks for the pictures! Am I correct in understanding that the back panel will have 3 (or 4?) connectors, plus an integrated 1S battery (I don't recall where I read that).

Yes, it's about 1 inch thick and meant to go in the back of the robot but it could go anywhere. You feed 3 small wire harnesses through the robot to connect the 3 regular plates to the one in the back. You can see the 3 open male pin connectors below. There is a built in battery, transponder, radio, impact sensor and switch. It Velcros on like the other plates. You can provide your own wire harness or we will bring plenty of extras of varying length for people to borrow along with the plates.

I noticed there was a 2"-18" limit for the panel mounting height, what about 1" height off the ground? I may have already designed it to like 1.5" I think...

We've had discussions about that rule in the past as well. It was a legacy rule and we're not sure what the rationale behind it was. The way I see it if your under 2" of the ground its potentially more of a disadvantage than an advantage. More likely to catch ricocheting BBs as well as bumping into ground clutter.

We'll waive the rule if you come under 2".

I just re-read the 2018 rule set. The 2" was taken out as far as I can see. Section VII paragraph 5 at the Robogames 2018 site.

    5. Target plates must be reasonably and FIRMLY mounted on a Mech, with their entire face located less than 22” off the ground, and not obscured by any limbs. Plates should be mounted on a flat, vertical surface, using two strips of 3.5” length velcro, so that the target plate is perpendicular to the ground.

Sorry if this is a repeat question but I have not seen an answer elsewhere on the forums. Do we need Velcro or anything else to mount the panels to our mech? I have the space ready for the 3.5 inch size but don’t know if I need to get my own Velcro or something else to attached them to my mech.

    Sincerely,
    JF
