Thread: Dynamixel bulk read behavior on missing servo

  1. Dynamixel bulk read behavior on missing servo

    Hello,

I am currently designing a robot with 20 Dynamixel MX-28 servos in daisy chain, and to read them efficiently I'd like to use the bulk read instruction. However, documentation apparently does not inform how the servos behave in case one of them does not respond.

E.g. I am reading servos 0 through 19, but connection to servos 5, 8 and 10 went bad on runtime. My bulk read instruction still tries to read all servos in nummerical order. What happens next? Does communication stop, waiting for servo number 5? Do all other servos still respond? Do I get any info at all?

    Thank you for the attention.

You might want to ask on the Robotis forum: http://en.robotis.com/service/forum.php

Don't have your setup... But you might try simple test and disconnect one of the servos and see what happens...
My guess is there would be some form of timeout.
