That's not too bad. Although 190 F *is* hot enough to congeal an egg ... but not hot enough to destroy most linear ICs like a regulator (typically rated to 150C or so for junction temperature.)

danniel, yes the internal fan type alternator did run much cooler then the external fan type.Did the fan types you installed managed to cool?
With the external fan type alternator I would have to monitor the alternator temperature very closely
and stop frequently to let it cool down before continuing mowing to keep from burning it up(220deg).
with the internal fan type alternator installed I was able to mow continually.
but even with the internal fan type alternator the 500cfm blower are still required to keep the alternator
within operating temperature.

That's actually pretty crazy. When a car battery is low, the alternator will have to produce a fair amount of current for a fair amount of time; I wonder if you can kill the alternator in your car by doing that on a hot day?but even with the internal fan type alternator the 500cfm blower are still required to keep the alternator

jwatte, if a cars cooling fan failed, and something in the charging system shorted to ground( causing a constant 40Amp draw)
and the car moved at very slow pace(lawn mower speed), I could see the alternator failing.
